1 Fronts - 8 FDNY helmet fronts The following five were worn
Ceaser (Sandy) W. Sansevero in the line of duty. The first is a red front with
white cut out letters that read 113 and a painted fireman's badge number at the
bottom, 6035. The 4 black fronts have cut outs with white painted letters and
follow him through the
ranks; including 2 CHIEF'S AIDE 43RD BATT one of which includes his badge
number, AIDE DEPY COMM'R w/badge number, AIDE FIRE COMM'R w/badge number.
Another front from Sansevero's career is white with red cut outs from when he
was Director of Fire Safety at Rockafeller Center. 2 other FDNYfronts are both
black, one reads TRAINING SCHOOL FDNY, the other 245 with the badge number 2779.
With the exception of the Rockafeller Center front they are Cairns & Bro.

2 Builders Plate - This cast iron American LaFrance builders
plate measures 28½" x 5". It has a maltese cross in-between the words American
and LaFrance. It has 4 mounting holes, one in each corner.

3 Hat and Lapel Badges - This FDNY hat and lapel badge lot
contains 15 badges, silver colored lieutenants unless noted, including: 2 pumper
Squad 8, 2 generic Water Tower (one facing left, the other right), a
Headquarters, 3 pumper 332 (brought back to service at the NY Worlds Fair 1964),
a pumper 98, a pumper 199, 2 fire boat 57 (hallmarked N. C. Walter & Sons 15
Park Row New York), a fire boat 57 (captain), a gold colored 5 trumpet, and a
gold colored 4 trumpet.

4 Helmet - This black jockey style helmet has Gratacap crown
panel designs, and a brass Cairns bro. ventilator tag on the inside. The front
is black with 2 red cut-outs, the top reads FIRE KING and the bottom reads HOSE.
In the middle is a white cut-out 1. It has a hanging hook that looks to be
applied by the
firefighter. There is a tag on the bottom of the brim by the ear. It is 1¼" x
1¼" nickel plated metal that reads FD. It has a liner signed by F. W. Noyes.

5 Wrist Lantern - The fixed globe is clear with etching that
reads JACOB WEBSTER NO.2 WOBURN. The breather holes on the chimney are
alternating stars and diamonds. The breather holes on the base are all stars.
All the stars are six pointed. The reservoir is complete and seems to be in
working condition. Overall height is 17" tall.

6 Helmet - This black 16 comb Wilson high eagle helmet has a
black front with 3 red cut-outs that have white leather letters. The top cut-out
reads LOCKROW, the middle HOSE and the bottom JCS. Between the 2nd and bottom
cut-outs there is a 3" tall cut-out number 6. The bottom of the back brim has a
5½" wide x 2½" tall Wilson logo. The center of the logo reads WILSON MAKER 135
BOWERY NY. It has a liner. A thin piece of black leather has been added to the
entire outer edge of the brim. It does not appear to have been done recently.
Lockrow Hose 6 dates back to 1872, in Buffalo, N.Y. on High St. between Main and
Mulberry. 900
7 Photo - Signed NEWTON NO. 2 1873, this photo of a Newton, MA steam
engine also has 16 five inch tall oval cut-outs with photos of its members and
their names. It is in a very ornate frame, 52" wide x 44½" tall. The steam
engine is in front of a 2 bay brick fire house. One door reads S F E 2 NEWTON
and the other NFD HOSE 2.

8 Gong - This oak case house gong has a 16" brass bell with
nickel platting. The brass mechanism is signed GAMEWELL F.A. TELE. CO. NY in 2
places. The wind up crank is included. It is 34" tall and 20¼" wide at the bell
and 19" wide at the top. The glass in the door is 7" wide with the top arched
and bottom arched to follow the bell. It is flanked by turned columns. The top
has a sun ray carving on each side of the door. The window putty has been
flacking off.

9 Nozzle - This 19½" long steam engine nozzle is stamped O.O.F.D. in 2
places. That stands for Old Orchard Beach Fire Dept. It has 2 black leather
handles. The body is covered in black leather. The 2½" intake has pins not lugs.
The discharge tip is signed SAMUEL EASTMAN EAST CONCORD, N.H. and it has a 1¼"
discharge.

10 Trumpet - This silver plated trumpet is 22½" tall. The
diameter of the bell is 9¼". The outside edge of the bell is scolloped. It has
three different motifs, a floral motif on the bell. The center has a
firefighters scramble that includes 2 ladders, 2 torches, 2 axes, a hook, and a
high front helmet. The scramble is 4½"
tall x 4" wide. The upper section has a songbird carrying leaves. The
presentation is on the bell and reads PRESENTED TO PHILIP H. GEHRING BY THE
MEMBERS OF THE EXEMPT FIREMAN'S ASSOCIATION OF RAHWAY N.J JUNE 14, 1909. Above
and below each cord ring is a small floral
motif. Does not include cord and tassels.

11 Helmet - This 84 Comb white leather high eagle helmet has a
hand painted gold leaf front. The top reads CHIEF and the bottom has his
initials, P.H.G (Philip H. Gehring). In the middle there is a 4 wheel hosereel.
The front has a couple of scratches but do not detract from the image. The
helmet comes with a liner. It does not have a hanging ring and no evidence that
it ever did. The paint on the leather is crackled.

12 Alarm Box - This 1922 style Herculite Gamewell alarm box has
a bullseye quick action door. The outer door has a brass tag #42. The porcelain
inner box has a matching code wheel. The improved Peerless sending mechanism
appears to be intact. It has recently been restored.

13 Helmet - This white high eagle helmet has a white front with
3 red cut outs. The top has white leather letters that read NEWBURYPORT. The
middle cut out has white leather letters that read NVFA, which stands for
Newburyport Veteran's Fire Association. The bottom red cut out is blank. It has
a corduroy liner.
Inside there is a painted 33 and a piece of masking tape with the last name
Lang, with more information faded away. The high eagle is signed OAK HALL
BOSTON.

14 Engine Lamps - This matching pair of 20" tall engine lamps
are each signed DEVOURSNEY BROS. 6 MAKER 389 BROOME ST NEW YORK. They each have
a 4¼" diameter ruby red beveled glass panel that is etched with the name EAGLE.
They also have two 4¼" diameter clear beveled glass panels each and they have an
eagle finial on the top of their double stacked chimneys.

15 Parade Shirt - This red wool shirt has 12 buttons on the
front and 1 button on each sleeve. All the buttons are covered with red fabric.
It has a bib front that extends all the way down to the waist line. It has 2½"
tall white wool letters across the chest that read MMVA. There is a very small
hole on the back side near the top and there are 2 very small stains above the
V.

16 Playpipe - This 21¼" long leather covered playpipe has 2
flat leather handles. The discharge tip has an 1½" hose connection on the end.
The 2½" intake has pins not lugs and the discharge tip has a black rubber thread
guard. The manufacturer is unknown.

17 Mirror - The frame around this mirror looks like a Gamewell alarm
box. There is a straight fist Gamewell logo just under the peak of the roof.
Above the mirror it reads THE GAMEWELL FIRE ALARM TLELGRAPH CO. Below the mirror
it reads GENERAL OFFICES AND WORKS, NEWTON UPPER
FALLS, MASS. The outside edge of the mirror is deteriorating, which is common
for these mirrors. The back is original and it has cleaning instructions printed
on it.

18 Print - This nicely framed and matted 1866 Currier & Ives
print from THE LIFE OF A FIREMAN series titled, THE METROPOLITAN SYSTEM depicts
a ladder truck, a steam engine, and a hose wagon racing to a fire. The depiction
is 26" wide x 16¾" tall. There is some minor damage in the lower right hand
corner, mostly on the margin.

19 Head Lamp - This 21½" tall brass head light lamp comes mounted on a
display stand. A copy of a print showing it on a 4 wheel Holloway Chemical
Engine is also included. This lamp was restored by Donald Sawyer. A photo copy
of before and after pictures are also included.

20 Trumpet - This plated trumpet is 23¼" tall. The diameter of
the bell is 7½". The motif is a combination of holly leaves and geometric
designs. The center section has a depiction of a steam engine. The bell features
the presentation that reads VOTED TO HOSE FOUR AT THE UNIVERSALIST FAIR
NEWTONVILLE MASS DEC. 19, 1885. Its faded red cord appears to be original, but
the tassels are missing.

21 Badge - This 2 3/16" tall by 1 5/8" wide shield shaped hand
engraved badge reads S.F.E. EXCELSIOR at the top and PEABODY SUBSTITUTE at the
bottom, with the number 2 in the middle. Part of the black wash is worn away on
the 2. The perimeter is hand engraved in a zig-zag pattern. Then pin and catch
are intact.

22 Inkwell - Made in the shape of an early hydrant, this inkwell is
signed FIRE ASSOCIATION OF PHILADELPHIA around the 4" diameter base. The top
flips open to expose the glass inkwell. The inner edge of the glass has some
very tiny chips. The top reads INSURANCE FROM LOSS BY FIRE. Produced
to commemorate the companies 100th anniversary, the sides of the hydrant have
the dates 1817 and 1917. A fountain pen is included with this lot. 215
23 Trumpet - This 20" tall Fred Miller trumpet has a 6¾"
diameter bell. It has an oval manufactures tag which reads MAN'F'D BY FRED J.
MILLER NEW YORK PAT. MAY 18.75. It has a frayed cord of entwined green and
yellow that appears to be original, the tassels are missing.

24 Extinguisher - The label on this 2½" gallon apparatus
extinguisher reads FIRE DEPARTMENT, MACK FOAM TYPE FIRE EXTINGUISHER, TESTED TO
500 LBS, MACK MANUFACTURING CORP NEW YORK CITY. The top bears the patent no.
2086541 and the hose has a ¼ turn shut off.

25 Lantern - This brass plated Dietz Fire King lantern has
raised letters on the front panel that read, AMERICAN LAFRANCE FIRE ENGINE CO.
INC. ELMIRA, N.Y. It has a cobalt blue globe. It is stamped PATENTED AUG. 27.07.

26 Helmet w/Badge - The black high eagle helmet has a black
front with 2 red cut outs. The top reads in white leather letters FIREMAN. The
bottom reads HBFD, in white leather letters. The consigner believes the HBFD
stands for Hampton Beach Fire Dept. In the middle is a white cut out similar to
a fleur de lis. The brass tag inside the hemet is signed CAIRNS & BRO NEW YORK.
The eagle is signed CAIRNS & BRO. The front is very fragile. The liner is
missing. It has a hanging ring. This badge appears to be from the 1950s, the top
reads HAMPTOM, the bottom reads BEACH F.D., the very bottom has firefighter 62.
The center has a State of New Hampshire seal. The pin is intact and has a
Burgess catch. The 2nd badge is a maltese cross hat badge that reads HAMPTON on
the top and BEACH on the bottom, with 31 in the middle.

27 Lantern - This brass fixed globe chief's lantern is signed
AFD H3 above the round breather holes, found below the globe. The wick assembly
is signed E. MILLER AND CO. USA. The wick guard is signed SIMPLEX on both sides.
The lamp base which is soldered to the bottom of the reservoir has a small 1"
crack that would not affect the use of the lantern. It has a 8" tall by 6" wide
bail handle. It is 12½" tall, excluding the bail.

28 Alarm Box - This Gamewell non-interfering Excelsior alarm
box has a slanted fist logo at the top of the door. The non-instructional door
reads FIRE ALARM TELEGRAPH STATION. THE GAMEWELL FIRE ALARM TELEGRAPH CO. NEW
YORK. It has a brass tag #45. The door of the inner box has a 3" tall by 4½"
wide brass tag with 17 patents screwed on it. That brass tag is usually found on
Latey alarm boxes used by railroads. The sending unit appears complete and to be
working order. 200
29 Cane - This presentation cane is 35¼" long overall. The
highly decorated top, which the consignor believes to be gold plated, is
engraved PRESENTED TO H.E. STOWE BY HOSE 2 HUDSON, MASS. The top is 2½" long.
The tapered wooden shaft is painted black. The bottom does not have a protective
tip, but is clean and shows no evidence that is have ever been used as a walking
cane. 350
30 Parade Belt - This black belt with white trim has a red cut out with
white leather letters that read EVERETT. A very small portion of the white trim
is missing. The keeper is also black with white trim and a red cut out. It has
white leather letters that read GENL TAYLOR VFA. Some of the white is missing
from the O and R. Both inner belts are intact.

31 Model - This side stroke piano box style handtub is 10½"
from the back of the hard suction to the front of the steering bar. The rocker
arm assembly goes through the dome. There are extra hard suctions mounted on
each side of the box. It appears to be close to scale. There is a 4 wheel hose
reel with a roller and a tool box. The case is 16" long x 6" wide x 6¼" tall.
The bottom of the case is wood with a clear plastic cover.

32 Hat and Lapel Badges - This FDNY hat and lapel badge lot contains 12
badges, silver colored lieutenants unless noted, including: 3 pumper Squad 4, a
Water Tower 1, a SSS (Special Service Squad), 3 fire boat 232, a fire boat 232
(captain), a Headquarters, and 2 rescue unit depicting a rifle and diving
helmet.

33 Air Pump - The bellows in this pump produce a current of air
when the operator pumps the brass pedal with their foot. The pedal is signed
SIEBE GORMAN & CO. LTD. It has a brass tag with a signaling code that reads 1
PULL, MORE AIR REQUIRED, 2 PULLS, SLACK OFF LIFE LINE, 3 PULLS, HELP ME OUT
IMMEDIATELY. A brass horn with an 11" diameter outlet is included. It is in
working order.

34 Cover - Believed to be off the back of a 1901 horse drawn
Hook and Ladder from Mamaroneck, NY on Long Island Sound, this leather trapezoid
is 22" tall x 34" wide at the bottom. There are leather straps at the bottom and
metal hooks at the top. It was probably used to cover the hose compartment. One
of the metal snaps is missing. Nice visual image, but should be framed to
prevent damage.

35 Log Books - The FDNY run record from Mar 1915 to Mar 1917
and the FDNY House Journal from Apr 1918 to Aug 1918. Both are from the fireboat
New Yorker, which at the time was Engine 57 and is now Marine 1. The House
Journal lists such information as time out of quarters, gallon pumped per
minute, pier number, name of officer making the report, attending firefighters,
and much more.

36 Newspaper Pages - Feb 7, 1891 Harper's Weekly depiction of
the fire boat New Yorker in action; Mar 7, 1891 Scientific American (complete
issue) depicting the fire boat New Yorker playing 6 streams on a wharf fire and
a cut away showing the inside of the New Yorker; 4 supplemental pages of an 1880
Harper's Weekly with articles about the use of pompier ladders, fire insurance,
and life saving; and a framed copy of a Nov 11, 1882 Harper's Weekly depicting
the fire boat William F. Havermeyer playing water on a 3 masted sailing ship.

37 Helmet - This black leather Cairns New Yorker has a black
front with a sewn on 2¼" tall number 1 in the middle, under which is a red
cut-out with white painted letters that read NFD. The top of the back brim bears
the initials SRH. The liner and ear flaps are intact and there is a hanging
ring.

38 Testing Apparatus - This 19½" tall x 14" wide x 6½" deep oak
case box has a brass tag that reads AMERICAN FIRE ALARM COMPANY BOSTON MASS
PATENTED MARCH 15, 1887. There are some electrical terminals on the inside back
of the box, but the paper disc and clock center are missing. It
was used in conjunction with an annunciator, recording the condition of the
circuits that tied to the thermostats. See lot 136.

39 Lantern - This nickel plated Dietz Fire King lantern has
raised letters on the front panel that read, THE SEAGRAVE CO, COLUMBUS OHIO. It
bears the patent date Aug. 27 07. It has a clear globe. It is stamped PATENTED
AUG. 27.07. Structurally it is in very good condition, but needs to be
re-plated.

40 Parade Belt - This black belt with white trim has a red cut
out with white leather letters that read 5 GOV LANGOON 5 with the V missing. The
keeper is also black with white trim and a red cut out. It has white leather
letters that read PORTSMITH NH. Both inner belts and the belt buckle are
missing.

41 Hat and Lapel Badges - This FDNY hat and lapel badge lot
contains 13 badges, silver colored lieutenants unless noted, including: 3 ladder
165, a ladder 2 (captain), a ladder 57 (captain), a ladder 75, a ladder 86, a
ladder 87, a ladder 90, a ladder 141, a ladder 4, a generic ladder (captain),
and a generic ladder.

42 Helmet - This black leather high eagle helmet has a white
front with red cut-outs. The top and bottom cutouts have white leather letters.
The top reads CAPTAIN and the bottom PTPFA. There are 3 small red diamond
cut-outs in the middle. The number 1 is painted above the diamonds. The eagle is
signed A.F. SPAWN & CO NY. This manufacturer was only in business from 1876 –
1879 and was located on 110Liberty Street. It has a felt liner and a hanging
ring.

43 Ladder - This 14' pompier ladder has a wood shaft that is
reinforced with black painted steel. It has 11 wooden rungs. The wood has a dark
patina. The hook is yellow, has 5 teeth, is 32" deep, and is signed L-14. It was
on a Worcester, MA truck. It comes with a leather rescue belt.

44 Toy - This 15" long Hoge wind up fire chief coupe has a red
body with black fenders and black running boards. The decal on the passenger
side reads FIRE CHIEF, TRADEMARK, THE HOGE MFG. CO. INC. NEW YORK PAT PEND. The
tires are all signed HOGE. It has battery operated head lights, that are in
working order, adjustable front wheels, a continental spare tire, and a back
brake lever. The decal is in very
good condition.

45 Toy - This 14" long Girard wind up chief's car has decals on
each side that read FIRE CHIEF SIREN COUPE, MADE BY THE GIRARD MODEL WKS,
GIRARD, PA. NEW YORK OFF. 200 5TH AVE. It has adjustable front wheels, a back
brake lever, and battery operated head lights and 1 tail light. All the tires
are signed GIRARD BALLOON. It is missing a front hub cap.

46 Siren - The 2½" round manufactures tag on the back of this
plated siren reads SIREN-MASTER, MODEL 1136, 12 VOLTS, NO. 71765 NORTH AMERICAN
SIGNAL CO. WILMETTE ILL. It is 10" long x 9" tall and it has a mounting bracket.
It came off of a 1968 Howe engine. The consignor claims it is in working order.

47 Bunker Coats - An olive green military bunker coat with a
removable wool liner that has never seen action. A black rubber bunker coat, in
good overall condition, but the cuff on the right sleeve is only partially sewn
on. Both have gray reflective stripes and corduroy collars.

48 Badges - 8 breast badges, all with pins intact, including: a
Lynn, MA badge, a Portland VFA badge member #162 signed 1891, Boston firefighter
badge firefighter #2463, gold colored Bangor, ME captains badge, gold colored
Northwood chief's badge, a Hampshire, England fire service badge, and 2 Byfield,
Mass badges. The older style has a 1 at the bottom with a motorized truck in the
middle and the newer badge reads ENGINE CO. 1. 4 hat badges including: a General
Electric River Works F.D. badge, a Newton Veteran Association badge, a gold
colored generic chiefs badge, and a generic lieutenants badge.

49 Medals - An assortment of Massachusetts Firemen's
Association Convention Ribbons; N. Adams 1895, Boston 1902, Glousceter 1904 (3),
Worcrester 1906 (2), Fall River 1907 (2), Nantucket 1908, Plymouth 1909 (4),
Lowell 1910, Lawrence 1911 (3), Boston 1912 (4), Haverhill 1915, Worcester 1919,
1914 Salem Fire Ribbon, Haverhill Firemen's Relief Ribbon, Eagle Hose Ansonia,
CT button, and several other assorted pieces from various medals. 85
50 Parade Belt - This maroon belt with white trim has a black
cut out with white leather letters that read 1 EAGLE 1. The keeper is also
maroon with white trim and a black cut out. It has white leather letters that
read FITZWILLIAM NH. The inner belt that holds the keeper is intact, but the
inner belt that attaches to
the buckle is missing.

51 Ribbons - 2 reversible ribbons. The red, white, and blue
side was displayed for parades and celebrations, while the black side was
displayed for funerals. The ribbons read FIREMEN'S RELIEF ASSOCIATION GLOUSTER,
MASS on both sides. They also have a laurel wreath with a firemen's scramble on
each side and gold colored fringe on the bottom.

52 Helmet - The crown panel design on this red leather high
eagle identifies it as a John Olson. It has a red front with white cut-outs. The
top cut-out has red leather letters that read FRIENDSHIP and the bottom cutout
has red leather letters that read MFD. The 2¾" center cut-out is the number 1.
About 4½" of wire is exposed on the back brim. The brass eagle is split, but
intact. There is a hanging ring hole, but no ring. The consignor believes it to
be a Washington, D.C. Company.

53 Registers / Take-up Reels - A Gamewell newton triangle punch
register and a plated take-up reel. Plus a hard to find Harrington Signal Co.
register and take-up reel. All 4 pieces use 1" wide paper.

54 Nozzles - 4 highly polished brass chemical nozzles
including: a 9½" nozzle with 2 discharges, a 7/16" and a 3/8". There is a ¼ turn
handle that controls which discharge is open. A 12" tall nozzle with an 1½"
intake, a 1/8" discharge, and a ¼ turn butterfly shut off. A 12" nozzle with a
1" intake, a ¼" discharge, and a
dogbone T ¼ turn shut off. A 8½" tall nozzle with a 1" intake, a ¼" discharge,
and a lift type shut off that reads OPEN and CLOSED. The intake is signed B.C.
CO.

55 Helmet - This brown high eagle helmet has a black front with
3 cut outs. The top cut out is red with white leather letters that read
MERRIMAC. The middle cut out is a 3" tall white 3. The bottom cut out is blue
with white leather letters that read VN. It has a leather liner. The back brim
has a hole, but no hanging ring.
The front brim has a very small hole. There is no manufacturers tag. The eagle
has very large pronounced feathers on its neck, and may be a clue to its
manufacturer. Because Merrimac ends in a C and not a K, it is believed to be
from Merrimac, MA.

56 Parade Belt - This black belt with red trim has a red
cut-out with white leather letters that read WEST NEWBURY. The keeper is also
black with red trim. It has a red cut-out with white leather letters that read
VFA. It has been mounted in a shadow box by RFR Custom Framing of West Newbury,
MA. The box is
52" long x 9¼" tall x 2¼" deep. The belt buckle is intact, but it is impossible
to determine the status of the inner belts without opening the shadow box.

57 Helmet - The back brim of this black leather Cairns New
Yorker has a Bronx bend. The side of the brim has exposed wire about ¾" long at
the point of the bend. The black front reads ENGINE 3 EVERETT. The side and back
panels have 3" white reflective triangles. The inner red aluminum manufactures
tag has a
code, which means the helmet dates to the early 1950s. It has a liner, ear
flaps, and a hanging ring. This helmet has seen service.

58 Mixed Lot - 7 items including: a Franklin Fire Insurance Co.
pocket knife with the dates 1829-1929, a tip tray with a depiction of a
soda-acid fire ext., a glass paper weight that reads COMPLIMENTS OF THE CHAPMAN
VALVE MFG. CO. Indian Orchard, MA, a metal steam engine bank, a solid brass
maltese cross belt buckle, a cast iron trivet probably used for a clothes iron,
and a 6½" tall brass 1-2-3 Fire ext. with mounting bracket.

59 Playpipe - This 3 piece brass playpipe has a 2½" intake with
lugs that is signed ENG 3. It has a ladder hook, a Callihan shut off, and a
revolving 1 1/8" discharge tip that is signed BLANCHARD. The brass is highly
polished and the round rubber handles are in good condition.

60 Parade Belt - This black belt with white trim has a red cut
out with white leather letters that read 1 TORRENT 1. The keeper is also black
with white trim and a red cut out. It has white leather letters that read NASHUA
NH. Both inner belts are intact.

61 Nozzles - 2 highly polished brass nozzles including: a 15"
Larkin 2 piece playpipe with a 2½" intake with pins and a 1" discharge, that was
patented Dec. 1925. An 18¾" long 2 piece nozzle with a 2" intake and a 5/8"
discharge. It is unsigned.

62 Badge - This 2 3/16" tall by 1 5/8" wide shield shaped hand
engraved badge reads HOSE 4 DANVERS. The 4 has a sideways fleur de lis on each
side. Part of the black wash is worn away on the 4. The perimeter is hand
engraved in a zig-zag pattern. The pin and catch are intact.

a liner, and ear
flaps.

67 Muffin Bell - This 4" diameter muffin bell does not have a
clapper. It has a round metal ball that makes a typical muffin bell sound when
shook. It has a turned wooden handle and a carrying ring. The brass is very
clean.

68 Bucket - This leather reddish-brown bucket is 19" tall
overall. The front has a 7" gold colored oval with a 5½" tall red 2 which is
shadowed in blue and green. The top, bottom, and both sides of the oval have
yellow colored designs that appear to be splashes of water. It has a petite
handle that could be original and is intact.

barrel shaped with horizontal hoops. It is embossed HAZELTON'S HIGH PRESSURE
CHEMICAL FIRE KEG. It has a metal ring around the neck and is complete with bail

metal front that reads HOOK AND LADDER 1 WFD. The consignor claims it is from
Worcester, MA. It is signed Cairns in 3 places: the eagle, the inside brass tag,
and the hanging ring. The top of the back brim has a white painted 7. It has a
red
felt lining. This helmet has seen a lot of service.

75 Atlas - This CITY OF BOSTON FIRE DEPARTMENT ATLAS OF FIRE
DISTRICT NO 4, SUBDISTRICT LADDER CO. NO. 1 is 30" x 21". William Arthur Reilly
is listed as the Fire Commissioner on the cover and title page. He was
Commissioner from 1938 to 1946 so this atlas was probably printed during that
time period. It includes colored sectional maps that are near Haymarket Square
along Washington Street. The map shows fire escapes, sprinkler systems, types of
roofs, pipe stands, hydrants, alarm boxes, elevators, number of stories, gas
tanks, and much more. There is some water damage and mold, but is still
functional.

76 Badge - The top of this badge is engraved with a flower
under which it reads NEWBURYPORT. The center has a hand engraved 3 which is
double encircled. The bottom reads FIRE DEPT, with the very bottom having the
firefighters number, 43. There are other engravings worn faint by time. Part of
the pin is missing, but the field catch is intact.

77 Toy - This 29" long Buddy 'L' Extension Ladder Trailer Fire
Truck has original stickers on each side. It shows evidence of being played with
but has not been abused. It is believed to be from the 1930s.

78 Key Lot - 3 house gong keys, the first is 3½" long with a ¼"
square drive and is embossed HORNI on one side of the butterfly handle, with
FC-1911-17 on the back. The second is 3½" long with a ¼" square drive and one
hole in each wing of the butterfly handle. The third is 4¼" with a 3/16" square
drive and one hole in each wing of the butterfly handle. Next are 3 alarm box
keys, all with a maltese cross head. The first is a skeleton key signed FDNY.
The second is signed FDNY 1620. The third is signed FD on one side and THE YALE
& TOWNE MFG CO. YALE MADE IN USA.

79 Nozzle - This 27½" tall brass handtub nozzle has an 1½"
intake and a ¾" discharge orifice. The intake has pins. The body has several
minor dents.

white missing. The keeper is also black with white trim and a red cut out. It
has white leather letters that read CARVER MASS. The inner belt that holds the

81 Lantern Bracket - This 21 ½" wide by 28" tall lantern
bracket is unusual because it holds two lanterns. It has one mounting hole at
the bottom. The metal casting appears to be original except for the spring arms
that hold the reservoir. Dietz Fire King lanterns do not fit.

82 Fronts - 3 Cairns gold leaf helmet fronts. They read DEPUTY
CHIEF, ASSISTANT CHIEF, and DEPUTY ASSISTANT CHIEF. The letters are black and
are highlighted with red and white. Each front has 4 pin holes and a witness
mark at the top, confirming they were mounted on a helmet at one time. They are
in very good condition.

83 Playpipe - A highly polished brass 15¼" long tapered
underwriters pipe with D rings and a 1 1/8" discharge. It is signed WOOSTER
BRASS. The red cord is intact.

84 Helmet - This black plastic German helmet has a brass front,
crown, and brim edge. It has a leather apron on the back from ear to ear to
protect the neck. It is complete with chin strap and liner.

85 Master Box - This Gamewell alarm box can not be activated
without a key. It has a non-instructional door with the tag# 6342 and a matching
code wheel. The inner box has Peerless mechanism. It appears to be in working
order. The lower hinge on the inner box boor is sprung, but still functional. It
operates on local energy. On top of the box is a 6" tall red globe that stands
on a 6" electrical housing.

86 Automotive Plates - Two 8¼" by 8¼" aluminum F.D.N.Y maltese
cross plates. One is signed DePietri with the number 56 in the middle. William
DePietri was Asst. Chief of Department. The other has the number 94, which
stands for Fire Fighters Union Local number 94. It would have been on an
officers automobile.

87 Torch - The overall length is 31½" tall. The thin handle has
fancy turnings similar to early American furniture. The brass torch sits in a 4
way gimbal.

88 Curtain Nozzle - An Elkhart Brass curtain nozzle with a 2½"
intake and a 2½" discharge with a 2½" female cap. It has a 10" wide steel stand.
It has a 360 degree rotating water distribution head with a opening that

hanging ring, a liner, and ear flaps. The front is in a lot better condition
than the helmet. The front and helmet are obviously married.

trade cards, depicting firemen climbing over a brick wall. 4 postcards featuring
structure fires, 2 of which are printed by Johns & Co. Lith. Cleveland, one by

Chicago, all 4 from the 1880s. An unused postcard from the early 1920s depicting

Doepke MFG. Co. Inc. of Rossmoyne, OH. It is a 33½" long model of an open cab
ladder truck authorized by American-LaFrance. The piece of plastic representing
the piston on the drivers side and the lens of the search light are missing. All
6 original stickers are present.

98 Lamp - The base of this 9¼" tall motion lamp is signed
SCENE-IN-ACTION-CORP, CHICAGO and PATENT NO 838802, 75589. The outer glass body
is red and white and the inner spinning body is clear and yellow. Both the base
and finial exhaust chimney are cast steel. It is in good working order.

globe with a 3" tall 3 etched in it. It is trimmed in red. The back panel has an

plate with a maltese cross in the middle. Inside the cross there is a black and
red circle on which American LaFrance Foamite is written. A 4" x 2 3/8" black
truck plate with the registration number L4295. A 4½" x 3" black truck plate
with 6 ALFOC
patent numbers. Both truck plates are signed Elmira, NY. Also, a 3" round cap
that could be bakelite, which is either a gas cap or radiator cap. It is signed
AMERICAN LAFRANCE FOAMITE.

the middle. She is wearing a red high eagle helmet with a front that reads 1 A.
She has a brass trumpet in her right hand and wearing a turn out coat.She is
encircled by a hose and 12 2"x3" white rectangles with sayings such as: I am the
moth you are the
flame, there is a fire in your eyes, a cold hand but a warm heart, a burning
kiss is heavenly bliss, with illustrations replacing some words. The whole print
is bordered by fire ladders. The print measures 22¼" by 22¼". The lower right
hand corner reads COPYRIGHED 1906, BY CAMPBELL, METZGER, &
JACOBSON.

plastic bags), a hat badge that reads SERVICE DES INCENDIES LACHUTE around the
number 8 in the middle. It has a beaver on the top, under which is the name A.

published in New York by M. Crane, 21 College Place in 1885. This book has 896
pages of historical text, over 220 portraits and over 100 illustrations all from
the 1880s and older. It is autographed by the author TRULY YOURS J. FRANK
KERNAN under his portrait. It also has a handwritten dedication reading
PRESENTED TO DAVID SMITH BY HIS SON DAVID H. SMITH CHRISTMAS 1889. The binding
is weak in the front, but overall the condition is very good in consideration of
its age.

old marbles. It is 9½" long x 4½" wide x 5¼" tall.

READING, with the I missing. It has been mounted in a shadow box by RFR Custom

Newbury, MA. The box is 43½" long x 9" tall x 2¼" deep. The belt buckle is
intact, but it is impossible to determine the status of the inner belts without
opening the shadow box. This belt went with the Hancock hand engine, which is
now in Ashburnham, MA. The engine went from Charlestown to Reading to Somerville
to Ashburnham.

131 Alarm Box - This cast aluminum Sterling alarm box has an
unusually large key guard, with a #5 tag under it. The bottom of the door reads
BREAK GLASS PULL HOOK DOWN TO STOP AND LET GO. “STERLING SIREN FIRE ALARM CO.
INC. RODCHESTER, N.Y.” The peck of the roof is embossed
with the Sterling logo. The inside has an electrical block with 2 fuses that
attach to a round doorbell. The bottom of the box has 2 small corrosion holes
and the door lock is missing.

132 Hat and Lapel Badges - This FDNY hat and lapel badge lot
contains 12 badges, silver colored lieutenants unless noted, including: 3 pumper
Squad 5, a Water Tower 1, a SSS (Special Service Squad), 3 pumper 333
(brought back to service at the NY Worlds Fair 1964), 2 pumper 233, and 2 fire
boat 10.

133 Helmet - This black aluminum senator helmet has a round red
aluminum tag with a maltese cross that reads MADE BY CAIRNS AND BRO. NEW YORK
PATENTS GRANTED AND PENDING. It has bourke flip down eye protection. The back
top of the brim has 37 in white paint. The liner and earflaps are intact. It has
a helmet hanger. The black front has two red cut outs. Both have white painted
letters, the top reading AMHERST and the bottom reading FD. In the middle is an
aluminum medallion with a maltese cross, the center of which has a firemen's
scramble.

134 Brackets - This brass pair of Seagrave tail board holding
brackets are each signed “MONO MFGD SEAGRAVE HOLDER. They both have the number
U2537 stamped on the bottom. The spring arm and the hook have interlocking teeth
that allow the depth of the reach to be adjusted. They need to be re-plated and
the pivot pins have been replaced with machine screws.

135 Alarm Box - This keyless cast iron alarm box has a
non-instructional door that reads FIRE TELEGRAPH STATION L.W. BILLS. There is a
brass tag with number 381 and a twist to open T handle on the door. The box is
empty.

136 Annunciator - This 20" tall x 13¾" wide cast iron piece
reads NATIONAL FIRE APPLIANCE COMPANY BOSTON MASS. It is the outer shell of an
annunciator. Usually located on the outside of a building, an annunciator would
automatically indicate the location of the fire by floor or room, when
thermostats recorded sharp rises in temperature. This company began in 1884.
This was the beginning of master boxes. See lot 38.

137 Badges - The top of this 2 piece badge reads COMPLIMENTS
BUFFALO EXEMPTS 1886 and the bottom piece is a nozzle, trumpet, and high front
helmet. The other badge is 1¼" tall and 1" wide. It reads ACTIVE at the top,
under which it reads EXEMPT. The center is round and depicts a buffalo, the
words FIREMENS ASSOCIATION encircle the buffalo. Both badges are hallmarked C.C.

138 Lamp - A Gorham pony soda-acid 1¼ gallon fire extinguisher
has been converted into a lamp. It has a riveted seam up the back. It's on a 7"
diameter base. The copper on the back side has a tear that has been pushed back
in place; there are no sharp edges. It is in working order, but has no shade.

139 Badges - All 3 badges are maltese cross shaped. The 1st is
from Bedford Hills, NY. It has the number 31 in the middle and a C catch with a
kick stand type pin. The 2nd has an eagle on top, reads L.A.F.D. And appears to
be from the 1940s. The pin is intact. The 3rd reads BACHANAN, N.Y. ENGINE CO.
NO. 1 and has a burgess catch type pin.

140 Badges - This maltese cross shaped badge is hand engraved
around the outside edge. The top reads HOLYOKE, the bottom reads H.F.D, and the
middle has a ladder wagon that appears to be horse drawn. The back is hallmarked
THE C.G. BRAXMAR CO. 10 MAIDEN LANE NY. Which dates the badge to
1900 – 1910. The back has loops that indicate it could have been a hat or breast
badge. The other badge is round and measures 2" across. The outside edge is hand
engraved in a zig-zag pattern. It reads FOREMAN HOSE CO. 4. The 4 is flanked by
symmetrical designs. The pin is intact.

141 Helmet - This red leather Cairns helmet is mounted on a
board and was presented upon retirement. It has a white front with 3 red
cut-outs. Each cut-out has painted white letters. From top to bottom the
cut-outs read LIEUT, LADDER, and NEWBURYPORT. There was a sewn on 1 between the
2nd and bottom cut-outs; it was removed when Lt. Welch was transferred to Ladder
2. A 3"x2" brass plate is mounted below the helmet that reads PRESENTED TO LT.

144 Book - This original copy of OUR FIREMEN: A HISTORY OF THE
NEW YORK ORGANIZATIONS, VOLUNTEER AND PAID was written and published by
Augustine E. Costello. It covers firefighting activities from the settlement of
Manhattan through the 1880s and it is illustrated. It has lists of engine,
hose, hydrant, and Hook and Ladder companies. It also has lists of Engineers,
Assistant Engineers, and Foremen. Plus lists of firefighters killed and injured
in the line of duty. It appears complete and it is in fair condition.

an axe in his left hand, cupping his mouth with his right hand as he yells,
while standing on a 4" tall base. The flickering light bulb is in a 4-sided
housing withbeveled orange glass that makes it look like flames.

intakes. The Akron nozzle is 5 1/8" tall with lugs not pins and has 9 orifices.

dress uniforms all wearing metal helmets. Behind the men is a motorized truck
with wood spoked wheels. It is framed and matted in a wood frame that is 16½" x
14½". Plus, a photo of a ladder truck hooked to a team of 3 horses. There are 10
firemen in dress uniform, with a 2 bay firehouse in the background. The previous
owner claims it is a Cambridge, MA photo. It is in an oval frame that is 9¾"
wide.

158 Alarm Bells - A brass 10" diameter New Departure No. 6 pull
bell. The mechanism is signed NEW DEPARTURE FIRE ALARM BELL BRISTOL, CT and
appears to be jammed. Second is a 6½" diameter aluminum Emdeko Fire Alarm Device
from Torrance, CA. It is thermostatically activated and engineered
for early fire warning. It is model number 115FT.

159 Plate Lot - 5 collectors plates including: a 9½" diameter
plate handcrafted in Germany that has 8 pieces of apparatus around a firefighter
holding a nozzle in front of a burning building, two 8" Franklin Mint Limited
Edition one has a depiction of a 1922 Ahrens-Fox truck and the other depicts an
early American-LaFrance motorized truck, and two 4" plates in a 7 x 11 frame,
one of a 1928 LaFrance Metropolitan pumper and the other of a 1908 Waterous
steam engine.

160 Toys - These 2 toys were hand made by Capt. Tom Shortel
from California. They are a 32" long x 7½" tall x 5" wide wooden ladder truck
and a 15½" long x 7" tall x 4½" wooden pumper. The ladder comes in 2 pieces,

are intact. Last is a gold colored badge with the top reading CEASER W.
SANSEVERO. It has a large red circle with gold colored letters that read
HONORARY CHIEF STATE FIRE FIGHTERS. Inside the large circle is a small red
circle reading in gold color STATE OF NEW YORK. The pin and catch are intact.

reads HONOR ROLL OF ENGINE CO. NO. 6, OUR COUNTRY! IN HER INTERCOURSE WITH
FOREIGN NATIONS MAY SHE ALWAYS BE RIGHT; BUT OUR COUNTRY, RIGHT OR WRONG. It
depicts a gold colored badge that reads CITY OF MOUNT VERON, N.Y. The Honor Roll
is colored red, white, and blue with gold trim around the names. The matting is
silver with red and blue pin stripes. We believe it to be from between 1942 –
1959.

mechanism is in working order,
but the wheels are worn where they meet the axel and wont drive.

VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. This gray take-up reel is unusual because it has a
push-pull, start-stop button on its back just above the manufacturers tag. The
bottom is stamped SS1, probably the model number. The 6" diameter wheel takes
¾" wide paper. It is 6¾" tall and it appears to be in good working order.

the June 25, 1914 Great Salem Fire (MA) depicts the 245 acre catastrophe.

badge is encompassed by a pattern that looks like connected letter Vs. The top

above the word engine and theother 2 flank the 3. The pin is intact, it has a C
catch. The badge is in very good condition.

freshly painted. The embossed letters have been highlighted with gold colored

bottom reads PAT'D MAR 31 08. Inside the code wheel is number 22.

188 Puzzle - This 500 piece 20 3/8" diameter puzzle is signed
SPRINGBOK EDITIONS, INC. 1971 ENFIELD, CONN on the back of the box. It has a
1880s steam engine in the center circled by a 1906 Knox, a 1910
American-LaFrance, a 1911 Knox, a 1913 Seagrave and a 1920 Mack. The original
painting
was by Stephen Bates. The consignor claims the puzzle is complete.

engine company locations. Also directories from Plymouth, NH; Waltham, MA; Wells
Beach, ME; and a double directory from Sanford and Springvale, ME. Last is a
Waltham, MA booklet which besides alarm boxes has a street directory.

a pill box cap. It has a black circular patch that has gold trim embroidered
around the edge and 2 gold embroidered trumpets. The red silk liner is signed

sweat band is missing. The consignor has knowledge that it saw service in New

193 Worcester Paper Lot - Framed 1855 invitation to the Grand
Union Ball held by the Worcester Fire Department. Framed 1860 invitation to a
Grand Dedication Ball of the new fire house for the Hook and Ladder Fire Company
No. 1. 1859 notice from the Worcester Fire Department to Char. Tew Esq. upon his
election to Forman of the Tiger Engine Company No. 6. 1892 letter from American
Fire Engine Company to the Worcester VFA containing a proposal to build a hose
reel for $132.50. A second letter written on the same date to J.W. Loring,
President of WVFA stating a photo of a like hose reel was sent at the same time.

194 Mixed Lot - This black reproduction fire bucket is signed
VIGILANT 1 with gold colored paint. This lot also a gold colored metal eagle
with an 11¼" wingspan mounted on a thin wood oval base.

195 Model - From a distance, this 13" long x 7¼" tall x 5" wide
model (toy) of a steam engine looks old, but is new. It appears to be mass
produced and it is close to scale.

competitions between fire districts. It is complete, but

198 Toy - This mass produced wooden toy fire station is 15½"
tall x 15½" wide x 11" deep. It has a colorful brick and stone design, made to
look like an early 1900s station. The engine bay doors slide open and above them
reads FIRE STATION CO. 1. The whole front swings open and the inside has rooms
like a doll
house. All four sides have a painted hydrant and the back door opens and closes.

writing that reads MANCHESTER VETERAN FIREMEN'S ASSOC. HAVERHILL SEPTEMBER 30,
1897. A blue ribbon with gold writing that reads WINNISIMMET V.F.A CHELSEA, MA
with a depiction of a Native American and a side stroke hand engine. A faded
ribbon that reads CHARIMAN RECEPTION COMMITTEE 5TH GRAND SOCIAL WINNISIMMET
V.F.A CHELSEA JANUARY 23, 1903. A blue and white ribbon with a rosette and 2
tails. The rosette reads ASSISTANT FLOOR DIRECTOR. One tail reads ANNUAL BALL
and the other WINNISIMMET V.F.A. A red, white, and blue ribbon that reads
FIREMEN'S TOURNIMENT LIBERTY N.Y. JULY 4, 1901, it has a medallion in the middle
with a firemen's scramble. Another red, white, and blue ribbon with a medallion
at the top with a firefighter on a ladder rescuing a child. It reads HONORARY

lists names and addresses of every member in 1921 of every company in the
F.D.N.Y, as well as all associated positions such as clerks, blacksmiths,
sailmakers, boilermakers, steamfitters, and wagon painters. It has portraits of
officers from the Benevolent Association and many photos including steam
engines, hand engines, fire and training scenes from New York, and international
fire photos. The second book is entitled FIRE DEPARTMENT CITY OF NEW YORK THE
BRAVEST 1865 – 2000 COMMEMORATIVE EDITITION. It has history and photos of the
department, including equipment and notable members. It features a short history
and present member photo of each current company. The third is REFLECTING
REALITY: TOYS, LAMPS, AND LANTERNS FROM THE NEW YORK CITY FIRE MUSEUM. The last
book is A FIRE CHIEF REMEMBERS TALES OF THE FDNY by Battalion Chief Edwin F.
Schneider. It was printed in 1992 and contains his account of his career in the
FDNY.

open and the back compartment has a hinged flip top cover. It is in good
condition and it is 15½" long overall.

203 Parade Belt - This black belt with red trim has a dirty red
cut out with white leather letters that read BUCKSPORT (ME), with the P missing.
It has a 1" brass manufacturing tag that reads CAIRNS AND BRO 143 GRAND ST N.Y.
The inner belt that connects to the buckle is intact. There is no keeper or belt
to
hold one and no evidence there ever was.

FROLIC. It depicts 3 dalmatian puppies, 2 of which are chewing on the chin strap
of a red leather helmet. It is plate NO.045. The second is titled DALMATIAN. The
depiction is a close-up of a dalmatian from the neck up with a red background.
It is
plate number A1021. Both are 8" in diameter and limited edition by The Princeton
Gallery 1992. The 3rd is signed 100th ANNIVERSARY GREAT BOSTON FIRE, 1872
NOVEMBER 9 1972. It is 11 1/8" in diameter and it depicts the old Boston on
fire, the new Boston, and a fire alarm pedestal with Box 52 in the
middle.

208 Board Game - FIRE CHIEF: THE GAME OF MIXED UP FIREMEN is a
board game manufactured and copyrighted (1957) by Selchow & Righter Co. It is
complete and recommended for children ages 5 to 9. It is trademarked SelRight
and was made in the USA. It comes in the original box, with the directions found
in the inside cover. The cover is in good condition with the original price of
1.00 stamped on it.

him, standing in from of a hydrant and a wall. It is 20" to the top of the
fireman and 36" to the top of the lamp. It is in working order. There is no
shade.

the frame. A 1901 advertisement for an Acme fire ext. A newspaper print of a
very early Boston steam engine. An 1861 Sarony lithograph of a hand engine and
its crew rushing to a fire.

painted maroonish red.

218 Toy Lot - A red rubber Mickey Mouse Fire Truck that is 6½"
long. It has white wheels. The hood is signed MICKEY MOUSE and the number 2 is
on Mickey's helmet. Donald Duck is riding on the back of the truck holding his
helmet. More than 95% of the original paint remains. Plus, a fire chief siren
push toy that is signed KINGSBURY TOYS KEENE, N.H. U.S.A. on both wheels. It is
30" long when unfolded and 16½" long when folded.

logo in the peak of the roof. The door reads FOR FIRE OPEN THEN PULL DOWN HOOK,
and it has the number 911. Inside there is a push button 13 memory telephone, in
working order.

223 Alarm Box - This is either a 1916 Peerless or a 1922
Improved Peerless alarm box. The inner box has missing parts which makes an
exact identification impossible. A small thin piece of the outer door is
missing. This is an good parts box. The Cole key guard is intact, the trap lock
has a dog bone T handle key,
and it has an aluminum door tag #659.

firefighters actions in winter. A 1916 F.D.N.Y certificate proclaiming John A.
Monnett to be a fireman. The
last is a 1976 Memoriam remembering F.D.N.Ys greatest loss at the time, 12
firefighters killed in a collapse on 23rd Street in 1966.

226 Toy Lot - The first is an early cast iron reproduction of a
steam engine being pulled by 2 grey horses and includes the driver. It has
custom paint, with an atypical black steam engine signed E1 underneath the
drivers seat. 2nd is a later cast iron reproduction of a ladder truck being
pulled by 2 white horses. The
ladders are silver colored, the 4 wheels are yellow, and the body is red.
Includes a front driver and a back brakeman.

227 Kit - This model 2-FC Emerson Resuscitator Kit comes in a
25½"x9½"x6½" carrying case. The kit includes: an oxygen tank, a tank key, an
aspirator jar, an inhalator bag, a pressure gauge, a wrench, 1 adult and 1
infant airway stick, 1 adult and 1 youth face cushion, and paper work.

228 Running Cards - A compete set of 5"x8" Everett, MA running
cards, along with instruction cards for mutual aid to Boston, Chelsea, Malden,
Medford, Revere, and Somerville. Most of the Everett cards are from the 1950s.
Also included are Revere and Chelsea alarm box directories. Everything is in a
metal box
with a hinged cover.

229 Flag Lot - One flag is white with an 1¾" red border. It has
blue letters that read WELCOME on the top and FIREMEN on the bottom. There is a
red helmet in the middle. It is attached to a 3/8" diameter wooden dowel and
measures 22½" x 34½". The bottom is fish tailed. It appears to be from the
1950s. The other flag is newer. It is red with a yellow maltese cross that has a
firemen's scramble in the middle and reads FIRE DEPT. It is 36"x58" and with its
brass eyelets, could be flown on a flag pole.
