Hi Carol! See you tomorrow. Dave hasn't updated in several years; but maybe that's because no one uses the resource. I keep thinking there must be activity somewhere else on the net. (Facebook?) The OKO chat page is as quiet as this one. We are thinking of letting it go due to lack of interest. It's sad; but a reflection of the dying sort I'm afraid.
Does anyone update this site? I just looked at the judges list and WOW is it outdated!
Hello...is there anybody out there?? Lets get lively folks! We are headed into another muster season and I'm sure it will be very exciting!!!
Don't forget to send in your RSVP for the February League meeting by January 28th. Send your RSVP to Gerry 5, 210 Beacon St in Marblehead, MA 01945 attention Mike Butler, secretary
Sirens on the Sound has a ring to it. Maybe not as appealing as Save the TaTa's; but an appeal none-the-less. Go for it! Can we get a chop suey sandwich in the neighborhood? Or at least a burger?
Thanx Fritz for the info!!! Since it is for "Save the Tatas" just another definite reason to be there!!!! LOL Good first "weekend" muster of the year!!!! See you in a couple of weeks at the League Meeting!!
This event is part of a fire event called "Sirens on the Sound". It's a small but hopefully growing antique truck event that draws fire trucks and other antique vehicles. Last year the weather didn't cooperate and there were 3 or 4 antique fire trucks and about 6 other antique cars and trucks. they are hoping that the handtubs will draw more fire apparatus and work trucks. So Vince you are right it is part of a larger event. the roadraces are actually next door at the Eugene O'Neil Theater.
Vince, Perhaps i was premature in my assessment that it was of no interest. It's a 5k and 10k walk for some cause, save the whales, save the tatas, save festus hagen, ferris bueller,..... i don't know exactly and i didn't ask any more questions
Fritz--- is there an event going on at the same time as the Muster in Waterford on 6/2 that could possibly "draw a crowd" or will this be just the muster??? Reason I ask is only that you mention "stuff going on the beach that are of no interest" on the 9th with the date still available--- we will be there in any case but that might be of interest to other muster folks--- Thanx!!!
Another change and i'm just putting it here for comment, be nice now. Due to a conflict on both ends we are looking now at June 2nd. It turns out that is a better date for the Town folks in Waterford and it's better for some of us also. Let me know what you think about this date. June 9th is still available here but there are other things going on at the beach and they are of no interest to us.
The February NESVFL newsletter has the wrong zip code for the RSVP return address. The correct address should be; Gerry #5 VFA 210 Beacon St Marblehead, MA 01945 Attention: Mike Butler, Secretary Sorry for the inconveinience that it may have caused. Rick Bartlett Sec/Treas NESVFL
Fritz--- Sounds good to us-- probably an early overnight somewhere down there!!! Victor or Columbian will be there--- Location/ event sound great too!!! Thanx for working on it!!!
Hey Fritz; Sounds good to me! I'm sure the OKO's will there. Early is good; helps spread out the season! That was the weekend I launched my boat last summer, but I'll work around it. Happy New Year! May 2012 be a little kinder to us all.
Happy New Year everyone, We are planning a muster in Waterford, CT. The date is looking like Saturday June 9, 2012. I know it's early but we need to have it before the beach opens for the season so.... Does anyone have a hardship with this. If the date won't work tell me now so we won't waste any effort. Let me know ASAP Thanx FRITZ
Butch Tapley phoned me today and left a message to call him back. I don't have caller ID and he didn't leave a number. Does anyone have his phone number or a way to get in touch with him? Let me know if you do. Thanks!
Wishing ALL a Happy New Year and a Safe and Successful 2012 Muster Season. May the wind be at your back when your "on the pipe".
I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! HAPPY NEW YEAR TOO! Whatever happened to the fun chatter we used to have here on the 'red site?'
Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to all!!! See you in February!!
My old roommate Steve had to listen to me drone on and on and on about musters for a year and a half. I guess he was paying more attention that I thought! Here are some clips from the show he is editing of the Salem Muster: Lane: http://youtu.be/TDW3I9aFFI4 Gerry: http://youtu.be/SgPWyYGb-bU Protection: http://youtu.be/40zUk3RMm6M Quansigamog http://youtu.be/qZHz7iE5uYQ
It is with sadness that I relay from NESVFL President Jim Pulsifer the passing of Life Member Francis Smith from the South Kingston VFA. The following is from his obituary. Francis E. Smith Jr, 67, of North Road in Peace Dale, passed away Friday, September 16 at South County Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Croughan) Smith. Born in South Kingstown, he was a lifelong resident of South County. For 25 years, he had worked as an installer for Verizon, retiring in 1990 due to illness. Francis joined the South Kingstown Forest Fire Service in 1963 and was president in 1976, retiring as a lieutenant. He was a member of the Rhode Island State Fireman's League, a member of the South Kingstown Firemen Relief Association, a member of the Aberdeen Hand Tub and was a founding member of the Rhode Island Firefighters Emerald Society. Francis was a Charter Member of the Rhode Island Antique Fire Apparatus Society. He was a close friend and member of the Wires & Fires Antique Fire Engine Museum. As an avid supporter of Seagrave Fire apparatus, his in-depth knowledge and love this equipment led him to meet many new friends, sharing equipment history and many stories. Francis' keen eye, quick wit and sense of humor made him a valuable asset when locating and negotiating for items to be added to the museum. Visiting hours were held in the Forbes Funeral Home, 28 Columbia Street, Wakefield on Tuesday, September 20. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 21, at 10am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Parkinson's Disease Association, RI Chapter APDA, PO Box 41659 Providence, RI 02940-1659 or to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904-9826.
The NESVFL October 2011 newsletter was emailed last night and snail mailed this morning. The October League meeting is in Mystic, CT, Saturday October 1, 2001 at 12:30pm (or so). If you are going, let them know by sending in your RSVP, which is on page 2 of the newsletter! It is always a great time in Mystic! See you there!
Somebody's got to say it: CONGRATULATIONS to the season champions, Gov. Bradstreet and the Hancock!! The hard work of pulling together (and keeping together) a large crew has again paid off. It was a fun season with several good muster locations. Too bad that Class B is shrinking away; maybe next year we'll see a few return?
Hello everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know that my daughter Hayley Nelson is selling 100% silicone bracelets to help raise money for Chippa Bailey who is fighting colon cancer, as im sure most of you already know. My daughter came up with this idea to help ease the finacial burden for him as he beats this nasty disease. She is selling them for 5.00each and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to Chip. she only has about 100 left so please help her help Chip. Thank you so much Marny

atlantic and gerry at the top of the heap just like the old days, great job guys! A very nice venue today other than lack of spectaters
Rick Bartlett told me that pumping begins at 1 pm because Salem Heritage days is advertising it that way.
Does any one know the start time of the muster in Salem? On the info page it says 1:00 noon? Maybe it's just me but that's a little confusing. Thanks

To date there are only 6 entries for the Salem Muster. We are hoping it's slipped a few minds and there are a few more coming. We had told the Heritage people to expect 8-9 machines. This could become a regular event if it goes well and picks up a Salem sponsor.
Hello everyone! It was great to see alot of old friends and new faces in Colchester this past Saturday. We're glad the weather was good and the location worked out too! Our thanks to everyone that Dave listed as well. Hope we can do this again in the future. Wishing you all success in the remainder of the season and a special GET WELL SOON to Chip, missed you Saturday!!
Thanx to all the people Dave listed below, as well as to Fritz, Dave and all the Lane Members--- it was a very good muster and especially great location-- Been a while since we had a muster in the "tall grass" with plenty of parking and space to "hang out"--- we made it a weekend and had a great time!!! See you all soon!!!
Thanks to all members of the NESVFL who participated at the muster at Zagray Farms, Colchester CT. Thank you for the support of the Gov Bradstreet Anniversity Committee for the prize money, Colchester Fire Dept for all their support, the crew of the TW Lane, Hoxie Engine Co, and the Quinnebaug Valley Engineers for inviting us to their home. Special thanks for the Hebron Fire Dept for bringing water. Everybody pitched in and made this a good day in the country. Hope everyone had fun.
Chip is doing well and in great spirits. They removed a tumor from his colon. He had an infection in his bloodstream that is now under control so they can now treat the cancer. Again, HE IS DOING WELL. News of your victory amidst chants of "Chip-Ah!" made him tear up. The man loves his crew. He is at Anna Jaques Room 341B and says if you visit and he is sleeping "WAKE HIM UP!"
Great to see everyone again Any news on Chip and Steve Bradbury?
Congrats to the Quansigamog & the Bradstreet. Get well soon Chip.
Yes Earl this is indeed sad. It looks like it's time to find a new hobby!
Hey; Maybe we can bring our minature and pump in class B for a quick $150? This is sad guys - only 2 B's??? There's likely half a dozen Hunneman's within a 90 minute drive from Bath.
Here's some more about Colchester. The muster field has a website, Google 'Zagray Farm Museum' they have some really old farm machinery and equipment and a show will be going on while we are there so it should be interesting. Camping will be at the Fire Dept. training field, Schuster Field. Many have stayed there before, there is a new entrance off of Mill Hill Rd. so use that one or just follow George, he knows where he is going. As usual there is no alcohol allowed at the muster field and as usual if you keep it discrete it will not be a problem. See you in Colchester. FRITZ
We are running a little late with the invitations for Colchester, they will get in the mail this weekend and you'll have them next week, sorry ! FRITZ
The spring NESVFL newsletter is in the mail. The newsletter has the wrong date of the May 2011 meeting. The date of the meeting is on Saturday May 7, 2011. The meeting is at the Gerry #5 VFA hall in Marblehead. Please pass this along to all members and friends of the NESVFL.
Edna Maitland, wife of Dick Maitland of the Atlantic and a former President of the League, passed away Sunday. She was 96.
We've been trying for four years now to get the "Okos Girl" to a muster. She only shows up on the website every other February; sorta like the groundhog only prettier.
Rick-- when I pulled up the site and it talked about Greek Vacations, I just figured you guys were just giving all takers a trip over there!!!!!!
After my yelling and screaming at a poor operator, the www.okos.org web site will be back in 24 to 48 hours after the host failed to renew our site as it is suppose to.
It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of Ret Capt Steve Cashman of the West Newbury Fire Dept. Steve was a life member to the NESVFL. The wake for Steve will be held this Saturday (Feb 5)from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Rogers Funeral Home, 35 Green St Newburyport, MA. A spring internment will be held in the Rural cemetery in West Newbury. Donations in his memory may be made to the Shriner's Children Hospital, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA.02114. Steve was a charter member of the Aleppo Shrine Fire Brigade.

(I may not have your correct mailing address) Reservations for the meeting need to be returned to the hosting organization by January 28, 2011.

Hello to all in Muster World, we're looking to host another League Muster in Colchester on Saturday, July 16, 2011. Got a great spot at the Zagray Farm Museum where they host three events per year with 2,000 people attending. Of course we'll open up Shuster Park for camping on Friday!
Happy New Year!!! Only 6 months and 3 days until the first mustah!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!
Hi all, I sent out to all associations the 2011 dues invoice last week and I am getting them returned with checks already! The 1st one returned was from the Warren VFA out of Pepperell. Thank you! Rick
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL THE MUSTER FRATERNITY!!
Neps won the 1st annual "Button Bowl" 156' to 147'. Small crews. Strong tail wind didn't help. MFD engine 3 133' Fun day with good muster people!. Thank You to all that came out to see us!
Don't forget the pumpoff between the Okos and Neps, next Saturday, 2pm, October 23rd, at Marblehead High School parking lot, 2 Humphrey St. This is in conjunction with the Marblehead Fire Department's open house from 10 to 2. Bring the kids. See what the MFD is all about. The M A Pickett mini hand tub will be there for the kids to pump. MFD is at the corner of route 114 (Pleasant St) and Ocean Ave.
The season ain't over yet!! Neptune vs. Oko Pumpoff in Marblehead, Saturday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the Marblehead High School parking lot. This is part of the Marblehead Fire Department's Fire Prevention Week, and we are truly grateful for their help!
some suggestions for the insurance committe: corporate sponsors(print a program for the season once the schedule is complete and sell ads) Add 30% to the dinner price of meetings to be put towards ins. as was mentioned(if someone won't spend $13 for a prime rib dinner I don't want to play with them). Why not pass the hat around at meetings so people can throw down what they can afford. It was predicted by some that this ins. would bring down the nesvfl, let's not let it!!
good job to every one and there teams
to Fritz: yup, 12:30. see you Saturday
Know where I'm going and even how to get there, please remind me what time....12:30 ??
The address for next Saturday's League meeting in 80 Queen Strret in East Greenwich RI. See you there
Definately impressive that the lane's crew is 1/4 to 1/5th the size of the bradstreet's yet they ended up only a couple of feet behind them on the total. You have to give the bradstreet a lot of credit to consistantly have a full crew, it is Very difficult to do.
should of,could of,would of.the wind blew the same way all day.but thanks t.w.lane for making it interesting.the only thing i have got sick of hearing this year is the foreman standing on top of the tubs asking for help when they got a clubhouse full of people.@ ron guess the lane needs a faster ground crew.
Well, someone has to say it...Congratulations! To the Bradstreet and Hancock for once again repeating as League Champions! The way the season started, who would have figured that Class A would come down to the wire? The Lane deserves some credit for making a real run at it; only some 3 or 4 ft short on a day when the wind was such a negative.
the photos won't stay up long but if you go to www.theday.com there are some great photos of people you may know. Schroll down the page to photo galleries and look for the muster photos. thanx for all your help yesterday FRITZ
Here is some video of the Lane in Groton, and it's probably all you'll see from me for a few days. I am starting a new job with Price Towing today, and I caused a ruckus at the last Salem Access Television Board of Directors meeting so I have to be careful of when I go to edit there... Thanks to all of you for a great season! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V888y_mDJ7U
what a close one, the lane came within 2 minutes from winning the bowl, when they where rolling up to the platform the flags where hanging i.e. if they pumped 1-2 minutes ealier they would have won the bowl!Next year they will.
Washington Park Directions; Exit 87 from I-95 Groton, also called Clarence B. Sharp Highway, Exit is a left Exit from 95 South so get in left hand lane if coming from RI and North. If coming from New London it is a regular right exit. Proceed off exit to the first set of traffic lights and take a right, park is just ahead on the left. If you are using mapquest or similar enter 295 Meridian Street, Groton CT and that is the municipal bldg. right next door to the park. As a reminder, alcohol is fine just NO KEGS and NO GLASS CONTAINERS, the PD is right next door so be good! FRITZ
nice posistions, we'll know what we gotta do when we get up! I hope we don't see anything but hands on the brakes, if that was the case in winchendon they'd be chasing us right now!
Pumping positions for Groton CT 1. Gov. Bradstreet, 2. Neptune 8, 3. Hancock 128, 4. Oko's, 5. Gerry #5, 6. Protection #1, 7. Union #1, 8. TW Lane, 9. Quansigamog See you Saturday.Washington Park, reminder alcohol is allowed but,....No Keg Beer and No Glass Containers.!! Will post directions later, no parade, pumping at 1:00 Thanx
Joe, the Groton muster will be held at Washington Park (Meridian & Mitchell Sts.) on 9-18-10 at 1pm.
Is there any info on the Groton Muster. I will be in the area and would like to attend
Yes Marblehead was a well run muster and a great performance from both the oko's and gerry! 6/7!!
Good job Marblehead. Good weather, good crowd, good location, good showing buy the home town engines (although the Protection put a little bit of a scare into you) The only bad thing was streets in Marblehead are nearly imposible to find, I thought my GPS was going to burst into flames. Over all a very good day.
Here is some press from this morning: http://www.salemnews.com/local/x1237197020/Mustering-up-some-fun http://www.itemlive.com/articles/2010/08/30/news/news07.txt
Thank you to all that helped the Okos make it a special day! It is awesome to win at home!
I want to thank everyone who purchased tickets for the quilt drawing. I don't have the final total yet. For anyone missing the drawing Saturday, the winner was Steve Young. Congratulations.
Yes there was a redraw. My fault. Hancock gave me their entry and I forgot to give it to the Marblehead Muster Comm. (Dave Martin)
was there a redraw following the winchendon muster im not complaining but i drew a three and now we are the first tub of the day?
Hi Ron, Unofficially, I have the Bradstreet at 646' 2 1/2" and the Lane at 633' 1 1/4". The "throw aways" are 207' 3" for the Bradstreet and 195' 7 1/2" for the Lane. With 2 musters left and also a "home" muster for the Lane, anything is possible! Just look back at the muster in Waterford a couple of years ago where the Protction threw a long stream to come from behind to win the championship! Hope to see you all in Marblehead this Saturday. Weather is looking good!
Ron-- Thanx for your honest comment; it is surprising to me how close A is and that is great for League competition!!! And I agree with you on the differances on the complaints noted - and also note there were new issues in Winchendon with the same crew-- some closure has to be put to those complaints for our future reputation and longevity--- Les and the Winchendon FD and Corey are to be congratulated on putting on a "top rate" muster-- actually "old school" in a lot of ways with the BBQ and sold beer--- we had a great time and hope they can do it again!!! Great to travel into "old" Muster territory and see spectators and participants--- See you all in Marblehead!!!! Thank-You to all who had a hand in the Winchendon Muster-----
my rough calcs suggest if the lane can pump a 210 and the bradstreet doesnt better a 207 then the lane catches them,,,,going to be a close one! Chrissie, I don't think talking shit to your foreman is the same as tearing up the town.
heard about what happened in waterford...funny it's not the first time for inappropiate behavior in New York, last year there were not 1 but 2 formans from 2 different tubs saying some not so nice things to my foreman...nobody seemed to be crying about that..........
QUILT RAFFLE REMINDER - The drawing will be held at the conclusion of the Winchendon muster. Those of you who still have unsold tickets please try to sell as many as you can before the 21st. Remember, this is where the money is coming from to sponsor the Hancock/Winchendon muster. Good luck to everyone.
Hi all, This is from an email I received today from Brad Utter in Waterford, NY "I have the sad duty to pass on the news to you that Catherine Button passed away this weekend. I am happy, as was she, to see a Button win our muster. I can’t help but think that her spirit helped the Lane crew to victory. She was the last Button left in Waterford and one of only a few direct descendents alive with the Button surname. She was in her nineties and was thrilled each year to come out for “Family Day” as she called our H-Day events. She really took pride in her family legacy. Brad"
looks like nice weather for tomorrow!
I'm dying to say something about the bad behavior; but think this is best handled at Newbury. Maybe a "drivers' meeting" of the V-P's and the foremen to talk about what actually happened and how to address it. Even though Waterford was likely to take a year or two off; it's pretty bad PR that we are banned from the Buttons' hometown.
just to let people know that sometimes rookies get out of control seeing that they dont know the ins and outs of mustering.drunken asso is drunken asso and it sucks when it rolls your crews way.AND WE HAVE ALL HAD THEM ONE TIME OR ANOTHER.
WOW! It seems alot happened in Waterford after we left...a few bad apples, well you know the saying! Its unfortunate but from what we heard they didn't intend on having another muster for a while, that this was going to be it for a couple of years. Anyways...looking forward to Newbury this weekend...maybe people can behave themselves?!
This is all very cryptic, what happened and by whom?? This is a great venue and I hate to lose it but.....
I predicted that there would'nt be a muster next year before even hearing about the incidents based on the "lack of community support" I observed. What team went to the pool after the muster?
I was in Waterford, NY for most of the Parade and Muster and I saw a good time was had by all, but I am sad to report from the Waterford feedback web sight that some League member's had more fun than most of us knew and I have a letter from Brad L Utter - the director of the Waterford Historical Museum, that tells me the League will NOT be invited back any time soon because of several wrong doings before and after the muster by a select few people that couldn't obey the rules set forth in order to have the muster in the first place. I not sure if i can cut and paste it here but will try......... Jon- thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, some of the campers got a little out of control and the police got involved so the league will not be invited back to Waterford anytime in the near future. See the letter below that I sent to Rick Bartlett yesterday, the league rep I have been working with to arrange the muster. Since I sent that letter, I have heard from a Town councilwomen and some residents who complained that fireworks were set off at 2am and 4am in the park Sunday morning Brad Rick- I just received a call from our Town Police Commissioner and to make a long story short the league will most likely not be welcomed back to the community in the future. I am sharing this with you because I feel you should let the members of the league know what they are accused of doing by our police department and what not to do when a community invites them in for a muster. Some of the complaints made to the police department and/or to the organizers- -drunk driving- a group went up to a swimming hole (which is also a boat launch) after the muster and apparently the people there made complaints about the drunk people driving the cars. Of course there is no proof either way and I don’t know if the police went after them. -there was a group of drunk league members who went to the town pool and tried not to pay and verbally abused the workers there. - they were also upset about the drinking in the park- I know they did this in the past, but am guessing it was an issue this year b/c of all of the other stuff that happened and as the campers did not make any efforts to be discrete about it. Walking down the roads with beer cans etc…. -some of the campers cut a hole in fence and did not repair it. It was a section that was open last year but someone had fallen from that spot during baseball season so the Town blocked it off. I do not know if the town will make us pay for it or not. In the end, there were those drinking who were just too drunk, even during the day and disrespectful of the rules we laid out (that were laid out to us by the town). Although they were good about cleaning up the camping area, there were beer cans found along the road toward the village. I know that this is an example of a few groups out of control ruining it for everyone. We appreciate the members who had a good time and respected what we asked of them. By the end of the day Museum officials decided not to try and bring in the muster league in again next year because of the disrespect for our guidelines and lack of community support. Unfortunately in two years one of the fire companies in town, who owned numerous Buttons and who’s volunteers where made up of Button factory workers (while it was open), will be celebrating 200 years, it is unlikely that they will be in a position to bring back the league should they want too, which had been discussed. I did enjoy working with you and the Okos to make the wet down come together and there were certainly some positives throughout the weekend. It was great to see a Button win (with Catherine Button watching), 3 Button over 200ft and much more positives. I am sure that we will be able to do something in the future to celebrate the Buttons without holding a muster. I am hopeful that we will be able to convince you and the other Button engines to join us when we do. I have not gotten a confirmation on the condition of the men from Ford Hose, when I do I will send you a note.
Thanx for the update Brad, we are all concerned about how they are. Glad that all are on the mend. FRITZ
As requested, here is the latest on the two firemen who got hurt at the end of the day of Saturday. One broke and separated his shoulder and the other got a slight concussion and cut his ear bad enough for stitches inside and out. Thank you to all of the muster folks who stepped in to help when they went down.
Guess that answers that question Earl! (your posting asking if the bradstreet could be beaten).
We are looking forward to having you all in town this weekend. For all of the latest info on the parade line-up (new route this year) and the schedule of events please check our website at http://www.waterfordheritageday.com/ Please make sure to hit "Refresh" on your browser when you get to the site. I also encourage you to click on the Facebook link for pictures from last year and another source of info for this year (you do not have to be a Facebook member to look at the site). Safe travels and feel free to contact me with any questions. Brad
I don't think that anyone from here was able to attend. I know I spent the weekend sweltering in the heat taking care of long neglected home stuff that had been put of due to the welcome habit of hand tub mustering. Next stop..... Waterford !!
Hey Fritz- Did any of the Lane folk make it to Fire and Ice? How did it go? I enjoyed it last year; but took the grandchildren fishing this time around and caught up on lawn and garden stuff. A summer weekend without a handtub involved - felt a little strange.
Pumping order for Waterford,NY 1. Hancock 2. Quansigamog 3. Neptune 4. Protection 5. Gerry 6. T W Lane 7. Gov Bradstreet 8. Okommakamesit
Thanx Earl, I thought I would ask, he was a good friend. FRITZ
Fritz- I brought up Jim Patrick at the OKO's meeting on Weds. Unfortunately, no one knew him. Found the obit on line with many references to Stonington. Sad thing; worse for a guy that young!
Hey Marblehead Guys, I had a long time friend that lived in Marblehead that passed away last week. His name was Jim Patrick, did anyone know him?? I know its a long shot but....I thought I would ask. Thanx FRITZ

can we get a muster under the lights like a friday night muster
sorry about the previous empty mail...... I had a comment but then I remembered...... 'It is better to be thought a fool than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt'
Wow! It's the height of the season and no one has anything to report? The Gerry is trying to fill a luxury bus for Waterford - non Gerry members would be welcomed. I believe it's only $25 for the trip. Can the Bradstreet be beaten? Maybe at the the homefield events for Protection, OKO's and Lane?
Name: Earl
Hey Mikey-Maybe if the Quansig breaks again; they'll have a go at yours!
The Atlantic is looking good for a day of Mustering this weekend. "Bath or Bust" Does any one have a crew I can borrow?
Open house and photo day at Exeter Fire Museum, Exeter NH July 17, 2010. 2 Hunnemans-Atlantic and Piscataqua, Amoskeag steamer etc.. I know this competes with Sturbridge and Bow event, but it coincides with Independence museum festival. Thanks for letting me post. see us on facebook
I rep the Hancock squad to the fullest! This is my second year participating and there will be more to come! This truely is good clean fun even for a bus full of badass! LOL Thanx to everyone who makes these events possible! Keep on Pumpin!
Charlie was indeed a great character! We appreciate him even more because he was the last of a generation we grew up mustering with. But we're maybe the last generation that will love and preserve the sport. We can't continue to take every date that comes up and pretend it's something special. Look no further than Bath this week. We may have more muster dates than engines at the musters. When does it become pointless and of no value to the sponsors? Is 6 engines a muster? Is the magic number 8? Gardner was a pleasant surprize. Nice setting, workable pumping situation, porta-potties, and even a "crowd" who helped pump a few engines and enjoyed the show. We need the excitement and encouragement a crowd provides. I say we need to be picky. No more "Death Valley Days"!!
AMEN to you Fritz! Charlie was a great and wise man when it came to advice. He was always advising me!! A muster is a muster and in this day in age of our sport, we cannot be picky or complain about when they are. I agree, it would be nice to have the long distance ones the same weekend, however, we do not live in a perfect world. So,that being said, see you in Gahdnah!
As secretary of the League, I tried to get this as a back to back, 1 weekend trip, but with the sponsors (the people with the money) of the musters wanting them to coinside with their festivities, it was immpossible to do. As you say Fritz, it is what it is! I remember Charlie and will always be grateful for what he did for my father, brother and myself. Gary aand myself had the Hancock Jr for a couple of years and participated with it at many musters throughout New England. That was back in the 50's and here I am still at it! Rick
Hi All, I'll weigh in. As I said before the last time someone complained about traveling. It is my position that no one has traveled more for more years than we have. For the longest time it took 3 hours from Mystic to the North Shore and 6 to Bath. That's much quicker now but....how can there be complaints from a North Shore engine that a lot of the time measure their travel time in minutes, not hours?? The point is taken that it would be nice if the NY musters could be back to back but it is what it is. We are at the mercy of the hosts and their dates and we will continue to take them as we can get them. I quite frankly get a little frazzled when we have a whole bunch of musters one year and a lack of them the next and wish we could spread them out but.....its not up to me its up to the sponsors and many of those are driven by events of note in their communities. So....Must Muster !! We will be there!! Our Old Friend Charlie Mastin said it best when someone was planning a summer wedding; 'It isn't bad enough that your dumb enough to get married in the first place but getting married during muster season is just plain stupid' If you're that dumb she'll be gone before muster season is over anyway" FRITZ
Hey R U Kidding Moi, Why don't you get out from behind your computer and put your real name on your post. Earl wrote his opinion and he has every right to do so. He put his name to his post. You on the other hand are hiding behind your computer. I must say that you are entitled to post what your opinion is, as is everyone else, just put your name to it. If you don't like what I am saying about you, then I have made my point! Rick Bartlett Okos Foreman League Sec/Treas
OK-What's up with this blank page? Is this a case of "If you can't say anything nice"? Well, let's start with nice. The hosts were all good people who tried their best to be helpful and the site wasn't all that bad. The chicken was good too. That said- is it possible that the Hudson Valley Firemen's Convention was announced and put together after the May meeting when we were promised some 45 fire companies just itching to pump our handtubs? I was more than a little disappointed to find the OKO in the chocks with our usual little band of hearty souls and not a prayer to compete. The thought crossed my mind that if all the firemen were at the convention; then why weren't WE there? Six and a half hours out; four and a half back through some lovely country. $130 in fuel, plus food and a motel. We get to do it all over again next month too. But this will be the last time I make this trip twice in a season. If Greenwich and Waterford are to be regular events, then hopefully they can work together to have them on the same weekend.
See you all in Greenwich! Great to get back at it! Hey Carol; could there have been some compatibility issues with the "Christ the King Spiritual Center"?
GOOD LUCK TO ALL THIS 2010 SEASON!!!!!!!
Muster season is upon us...YEAH! Just to let everyone know...due to a "misunderstanding" with organizers of the Greenwich, NY muster. There is really NO place for us to camp. I found a campground very close to the muster site...Lake Lauderdale Campgrounds in Cambridge, NY. They have sites, so order em up!! See everyone this weekend!
Hi all, The insurance fee is due for those organizations that are pumping during the 2010 NESVFL season. I will be at the June 12th drawing for the Greenwich muster and will be accepting money at that time. If you are unsure if you have paid your insurance fee for this year, send an email to me and I will gladly check my records for you. See you next Saturday @ 7pm in Newbury.
i am looking for a ride out to the first muster in ny if anyone could help me out. thank you, just email me if you can help
James Foss Son Elliot Foss sr passed away sunday graveside Thursday at1pm in Marblehead
Just a reminder: The winner of the quilt will be drawn at the conclusion of the Winchendon muster on August 21st. there are lots of tickets still out there. Please try to sell them as the money is for that muster. If you need more please contact me. The quilt will be on display and tickets available at the Gardner muster on June 26th. Good luck to all.
The drawing for pumping positions for the Greenwich, NY muster will be held on June 12, 2010 at 7 pm at the American Hand Engine building in Newbury, MA. Any questions? If you do, send me an email. Rick
i am looking for a ride to the first muster in greenwich ny. please get back to me if you can help me with a ride. thank you
Hi Steve! I'm a little confused too as to why the other "little guys" who were saying they wouldn't come out at all or maybe to three events if we went back to the original rules and prizes didn't speak up. But as to the funding; wouldn't 5 or 6 of this year's musters qualify as sponsored and hosted; and hence allowed to keep unpaid prize money? I really thought my (and Dave's) proposal was a good compromise-everyone got something like $150 plus more cash to the winners and the League got expense money that at least came close to covering the insurance. Still seems to me that $2500 is small money for our joint efforts at public entertainment.
I'm not against the insurance. I just don't understand how the people that voted to split the prize money evenly expect the League to be able to PAY for it beginning next year. If we FOLLOW the muster rules the League benefits at every event not Sponsored, Hosted, & having an active engine at said event. It seemed pretty logical to me.
Regarding the meeting and discussion of prize money, why don't we give $50.00 to the winner of each class and then evenly split the rest, less we start calling musters a demonstration rather than a competition. I agree about raising the money required to put on a muster as our current schedule suggests we can. I don't think the bulk of it should go to insurance and it appears as if the debate over its necessity is not over. Maybe we should look at the completed schedule and purchase it only for the musters where it is needed?
Hi Carol; and 'everyone' who still checks in. I expected some discussion regarding the prize money by-law change (actually a "Muster Rules" change which only requires a majority); but didn't think it would become a debate over insurance. I thought that issue was settled years ago-the matter at hand is how to pay for it. Briefly-we need the insurance because other than the Lane and maybe other organizations whose tub is still listed as active fire engines (and hence covered under municipal insurance) we are all at risk when in competition. The OKO's have liability insurance as a fraternal organization-likely several others do to. There's an expectation in that insurance rating that we are sitting around playing cribbage and arguing about politics; not out pounding a handtub. We all have "insurance", we have car insurance, home insurance, maybe even umbrella insurance, but who has "muster insurance"- likely ONLY the NESVFL in the whole USA. The example of 'double coverage' doesn't apply to most of us. If the Hoxie's insurer will add every active association of the NESVFL at every event as additional insureds; we might approach double coverage. Will they also include "atheletic participants" (pumpers) in their coverage? As I've stated several times, I encourage everyone to talk with their insurance agent to see if better, cheaper coverage can be found. I don't enjoy being in this position of defending and explaining the insurance; but it would be very unwise to continue competition without it.
Wow!Thought there would be some buzz about the meeting yesturday...it was a good meeting, seemed to get alot accomplished and it was GREAT to see everyone!
Wait till you see the newly referbished General Bates, it is awesome, will be finished this weekend, 4/24/2010, I'll post pics if this web site will allow me. Thanks for listening
Missy, Dave Martin and I went to see Woody last week at the Spaulding. Dave posted the address and room number in a previous post. It was good to see Woody and he is working hard to get out of there as quickly as he can!
Does anyone know if Woody is still at Spaulding Rehab in Boston? I'd like to send a card. Haven't been on here in a long time...best wishes to Woody for a speedy recovery.
Please don't forget to send in the reservation form for the May league meeting by April 24th. There is also a chicken finger plate as an alternative meal if you don't want the shrimp. Rick
If we, the sponsoring organization are going to have to come up with an additional $500.00 then this may be the last muster we sponsor. perhaps in the muster rules the sponsors are required to produce a certificate of insurance for the venue with the NESVFL named as an additional insured. that costs us, the sponsor, zero, not $500
Oh come on! NO thoughts on the by-law changes??
Ed Tufts, the author of Hundreds of Hunnemans, passed away. He wrote another book about Hunnemans and a history of the Salem MA fire department. He was a long time member of the Gerry.
Everyone should have their NESVFL invitations and by-law amendments by now: so what do you think about the proposed changes? Woodie is now at Spaulding Rehab-Room 927, 125 Nashua St., Boston, MA 02114 should anyone wish to send a card or drop in to visit.
Easily, the post is actually the best on this deserving topic. I fit in with your conclusions and will eagerly look forward to your upcoming updates. Just saying thanks will not just be sufficient, for the extraordinary lucidity in your writing.
Dave--- Mostly True; 85% of my Smalls (including a lot of Lane stuff from Manchester and loads of NESVFL Belts/ Badges/ Ribbons) and 3 handtubs (Papermill Village, Waterwitch, Granite 4) will be sold; if you have a chance to "buy the catalog" you probably should--- about 175 pages of colored pictures of much of the stuff most people have seen in the Museum. Though there are 200 lots (700 Fire items) on Saturday in the catalog (and some Sunday including a playpipe), about 50 lots of fire stuff will be sold Friday Noon to 5 with bidding from only those present-- no absentee or internet stuff---a Jamaica Plains NESVFL engraved box and many other NESVFL items will be sold then!! OK-- END OF THE SALES PITCH!! LOL I will still have 8 tubs and 15% of the smalls!! Kids headed to college/ time to travel/ retired are the reasons!!! Any questions just email or Call!!!
Is anyone going to the big auction in Michigan April 9-11th? Appears Vince is selling his museum. Check out http://www.showtimeactions.com
Woody, Get well. Hope you are on your feet soon. Muster season is on the way. Call us if there is anything we can do. Crew of TW Lane North
Woody was in a car accident on Thursday in town. He is in Boston. He has two broken legs, and a fractured vertebrae. He is doing well, defenitely in pain but still has his sense of humor. Any cards can be sent to Brigham and Womens 8B room 39. Thank you for all your well wishes.
Does anyone have any solid info on what happened or Woody's condition? Where to send cards, etc?
I have not been on in the longest time, but my and everyone up in maine's thoughts and prayers go out to woody and his family. Get well soon
Thoughts & Get Well wishes to Woody who was injured in a serious accident Friday Morning
Thoughts & Get Well wishes to Woody who was injured in a serious accident Friday Morning
Rick-- that is EXCELLENT news!! That definitely will go a long way (with the other donations) of taking care of the Insurance Issue for this and next year!!
Last night I was given a donation of $1000 to be used for the insurance fund! This isn't the only donation that has been made to the League for the insurance. This is really a big help! A big THANK YOU to all that have made donations!!!!! We are all in this together and we will make it!
I have two reminders: 1) You judges wishing to have shirts printed have them to me by March 18th. 2) Those of you who have quilt tickets, please try to push them as I am not even close to my goal. I have more if needed. Thank you.
Hey "All"; Dave Falconi and I have come up with a new prize/muster fee schedule I'd like to submit for a by-law change. Rahter than repeat it all here; please og to: www.okos.org and look in the chat page. Lets see what people think before it's submitted....
We have been given here in Jamestown FD, a handtub without a history. It is a Hunneman. I am trying to get a picture of the Fire King # 5, Hunneman # 235. it is suppose to be a squirrel tail. I have checked with most of the sources out there with no results. Any suggestions?
Great turnout at today's meeting....nice to see so many faces!! And interesting discussion today as well. Let's see what the May meeting brings! Only 19 more weeks until the first muster!!!
sorry i could'nt make meeting, no baby sitter and can't sit at head table with a 2 year old!
Hey Fritz- You out there? Do I recall correctly that the Lane has a gate to allow pumping from the box rather than the suction pick-up? A guy from PA has asked if Buttons had that option. I know the Jeffers has a gate like the Hunnemans; but if the OKO ever had one; it's long since been sealed over.
Thanks Carol, January is what I meant. I hope no one got confused (like I am!).
Hi everyone! I think Rick meant to have your reservations in by Jan 29th...Its okay Rick, I got your back!!
Don't forget about the NESVFL meeting, February 6, 2010 in Newbury. If you are going to be there and want to eat, be sure to have your reservation sent in by this weekend (feb 29).
Condolences to the family of Chris Hannah and the Quansigamog crew.
Sincere condolences to Chris Hannah's family and the crew of the Quansigamog 475 from the Hoffman family of Chester NH
just want to give a shout out to the qua-hogs.RIP Chris Hanna
Another sad week for the Quahog crew...they lost another crew member, Chis Hannah in a lobster boat accident. Condolences go to them from the league.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you.
Just to wish everyone a safe, happy, healthy, and prosperous "NEW YEAR". May the best musters be yet to come, good luck to all.
As Earl mentioned in the previous post, NESVFL life member and past President of the Essex VFA, Bill Morrow, past away Monday December 21, 2009. The wake for Bill Morrow will be Sunday (12-27-09) from 4-8 at Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich MA. Funeral is Monday (12-28-09) at 11 am at the Ascension Memorial Church, 31 County St, Ipswich.
Sadly, I report the passing of Bill Morrow who most of you know as the face of the Essex. I saw the obit in today's Salem News. Another of the good guys is gone. "We Will Try".
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone out there. Les, NESVFL president
Ouch! Made me laugh Ron! MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL!!!
carol, check with woody knight, i don't think he needs his anymore.
Carol- I know where you can get a good deal on an "old style" red and gold OKO shirt that looks like the old Neps'color scheme. Medium and small sizes only though.
Happy holidays everyone! I am in need of a "Neptune" T- shirt. Does anyone know where I can get one fast?
Our deepest sympathy to the Rideout family from the Okommakamesit VFA.
Just read about the loss in the Rideout family. My sincere condolences. Les Whitney, President - NESVFL
Jim, Very sorry to hear of your family's loss. We will be thinking of you and offer our sympathy to you and yours. FRITZ HILBERT and the TW LANE CREW

OK-I'll throw David a plug-Ken, did you check out the books that Dave Falconi sells from this site? "The Story of 85 engines" is full of info from the period you are looking into. Fritz, glad to hear the CT muster is hooked into the Convention!
I often would like to find some archives on previous muster records. Are there any web pages out there for the NEVFL archives? Most of the old handtubs were active at the turn of the century (1900 era)
What no comments?!
I think its a little easier to go to Massachusetts two or three times than it is to NY. There is this little thing... at least a six hour difference in travel time! They did it the same weekend last year so why can't it be done again? There is this thing called finances and I believe we are all in the same boat (with a few exceptions).
Happy Thanksgiving All, Duh, yes we go to Massachusetts on differing weekends so why in the world would we not go to NY State two or three times. By the Bye, plans are progressing for our CT muster in conjuction with the CT State Firefighters Convention which we are hosting in our area. The NESVFL muster will be one of the official events of the convention with a big fire parade in New London on Sunday.
I believe there has been a June date requested for Greenwich, but not positive. Anyway, I wanted to wish all a happy Thanksgiving, and a safe and happy holidays, hope to see y'all next muster season.
The tub will always go!
Just had to move that hunk of SPAM down the page. People must be checking in here; the OKO's site gets 10-15 hits a day where no one leaves a comment. We've stirred up a little chatter with the new newsletter indicating we may not go to every muster next season; but still only a few people responded. This is such a great resource; it's hard to figure why it isn't used. How about a little poll question? If Greenwich,NY applies for a June muster date and Waterford's is in July; will you go to both of them?
Fritz- Give me a little slack here. Mr. Barlett is in Arizona; however he did post next year's schedule on the OKO's website. At our monthly meeting I got more info on the League meeting. I was just trying for a quick update and figured it would be on the NESVFL site. I also noticed that David has now posted the 2010 schedule on this site too.
Hey Earl, Enough, call Secy. Teas. Bartlett and get your report, he was there and I think you know him well enough to pick up the phone and give him a call!!
Hey "everyone", just back from vacation and checking in here for up-date on the league meeting. Guess I went to the wrong place, huh?
does anyone have any information on any musters for the up coming season? i heard there was already a few set in stone and was just curious to where they are.
congrats to the hancock and of course to my fellow bradstreeters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! awesome season guys and girls....see you in gardner...
I'm very sad to hear of Percy's death. For several seasons, he was literally one of the Gerry "Five". He brought enthusiasm and humor to every muster. I have a great photo of him proudly bearing one of those signature watermelons. Even after his stroke, he never lost his spirit of fun and fellowship. He will be missed!
H. Percy Persons, AKA the Watermelon Man. Rest in Peace. Percy was a good friend, and an insperation to me to get the Atlantic back in the muster circuit in the 90s. He embraced the sport with a passion, wanting to keep a great tradition alive.
I regret to announce that Percy Persons of the Gerry passed away last Saturday. He travelled with the Gerry for many years until a stroke limited his mobility. He frequently brought a vodka-laced watermelon to be shared by all at musters. His obituary is available at www.wickedlocal.com/marblehead/news/obituaries An online memory book is available, and I am sure that his wife would appreciate any memories from msuter poeple who knew him.
You're welcome Nick! And thanks to all of you for giving me great action to capture; I'd be shooting and editing nothing but Salem City Council Meetings if it weren't for you guys. I've finished the dvd "New England Musters: Newmarket" and turned it in to Salem Access TV for scheduling. If anyone wants it to run on your local cable access channel, get me the information (website if possible). Facebook isn't being too cooperative with videos right now, but here is a YouTube playlist of Newmarket: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=CD6AADCE25FEDFB7
good job it was a close one this year. big thanks to all the great hosts we had this year. its been a awsome muster season. also thanks to erick smith for all the great pics and the videos.

Shane, if i remember correctlly the Essex 2 was completely gone through, made a brief re-appearance to the muster scene and then vanished. It does'nt cost much for league dues to be able to enter a muster and we would love to see the machine out. If you drag it to the muster I can get you 20-30 bodies ton pump it. You would wet it up for a week or so to soften up the cups and it will probably be good to go
the essex 2 i believe is where she has been now for a long time; just sitting downstairs in the fire station collecting dust. hey how much of a pain in the neck would it be to get the essex 2 out and pump it at a muster? is it more or a hassle than what its worth? i am not familiar with any rules or regs or anything else. would greatly appreciate some help if you wouldn't mind pointing me in the right direction. thanks
shane, this site is your best bet on the muster schedule. Towns and organizations usually coincidental to some type of celebration will put in to the league for a muster date and the league will vote to accept it (usually 10 out of 10 times a date will get accepted). I see you are from essex, what ever became of the essex 2?
thank you mr. young for that bit of info about the neps and the record. does anyone know when the 2010 muster schedule will be available? And who makes the scheduleto decide where the musters are held?
Shane, that is still the "official" record but there is an asterik by it due to the fact that the drop of water counted as from the stream was in the same row as a line of drops that dripped off a saw horse that was collecting mist.
Just a reminder. Only a week left to get your reservations to me for the October 3rd league meeting. Either drop them in the mail or give them to me in Newmarket. Hope to get many more as I only have twenty as of today.
can anyone tell me if the neps still holds the world record stream of 285? it was done about 25-27 yrs ago if i am correct and man did that tub have a crew back then, never seen so many guys pump a tub and to pump streams into the wind well over 200 ft is just awesome. i was at those musters yrs ago and cant wait to attend newmarket next week. if someone could give me some input on where to buy some neps t-shirts i would appreciate it. thanks all

Hey! While we are selling stuff...We have a few Hestia OKO's Christmas ornaments for those of you shut out a few years ago. As I understand it; the Gerry and Protection now offer Hestia's as well. While they last-the deluxe boxed set (with a stand) is $25. I'll bring a few to Newmarket.
For those that want to get a Hancock hoodie the cost is $30.00 in advance. I'll be taking orders & payment @ the Newmarket muster.

Dave is or was in Charleston SC
Hey Earl! I don't know where Dave is but I didn't get an entry form back from them. Word as it that he said he wasn't coming to the Woolwich muster? I don't know!
Is Dave Falconi away? Maybe on one of the Class C adventures? I note the pumping order hasn't been added to the 2009 schedule and the Union isn't entered for Woolwich.
Here! Here! Thanks for the back up guys!
Here! Here! Thanks for the back up guys!
I agree with earl that if all associations knew ahead of time then there is no beef. If someone wanted to make a stink about it, which they have every right to, they should have done so when the date was first announced.
I think everyone knows I love a little skirmish about the rules now and then; but come on! First; I don't think any comments should be posted if they don't carry an identification. Next; if we knew about the drawing date (it was on the muster invitation mailed 08/04/09), I assume all league engines knew officially. Plus, in NY there was some discussion about the drawing date because it wasn't the normal week before. No one seemed too upset about it back then. If some association is now worried about the late entry fee; I'm sure it can be waived if recieved this week. What's the beef?
League rules state that the drawing for the muster SHALL be held 7-10 days before said muster. Holiday weekend or not.

First off, MY bad... the pumping order is 1.Oko's 2.Quansigamog 3.Neptune #8 4.Gov Bradstreet 5.Victor 6.Hancock 7.Tiger #1 8.T.W. Lane 9.Protection #1 10.Gerry #5. Sorry! And secondly, we had the drawing this past saturday because next weekend is a holiday. And third, everyone was notified about the drawing date and time! Big John drew for the Bradstreet!
Since when is the drawing not the week before the muster? Nobody told us, and we're at every drawing. Who was representing the bradstreet?
the lane is drew 8 not the victor
the lane is drew 8 not the victor
Here is the pumping order for Woolwich... 1.Okommakamesit 2.Quansigamog 3.Neptune #8 4.Gov. Bradstreet 5.Victor 6.Hancock 7.Tiger #1 8.Victor 9.Protection #1 10.Gerry #5 Good luck to all and we will see you in a few weeks!!! Be safe!
Alright, alright; it IS too quiet here! New York was a great time with two hosts who really tried to make us at home and both provided the best set-ups they could. Ron is correct; a few wind shifts and the whole season could change. Hell, if the OKO had Fritz's slot; we'd have taken Greenwich and if the Hancock crew got confused and pumped the OKO in Woolwich...There's got to be one muster with some decent wind going the right way so we can play a little long ball. It's going to be a long winter; let's enjoy what's left of the season!
Hey all. It has been a great year so far, but this comment section is way too quiet. As for the Woolwich muster, if you stay on Rt 1 and go across the bridge into Woolwich approx 1 1/2 miles to a blinking light (not at cumby's) the fire station is on the right. Take that right at the blinking light, go to the bottom of the hill and turn left. the muster field is in the street which will be closed to traffic. Carol and I will be there at about 9AM to begin set-up for the day. Safe travel to all and good luck!!!!!!!!!!!
DO WE HAVE ANY INFO ON WOOLWICH MUSTER LOCATION T.Y.

I agree with you ron, where is everyone? NY was pretty fantastic! We are all looking forward to everyone coming back to Maine on 09/12/09. It should be a good time for all! See everyone soon!

Is there another site where muster enthusiast go? Right in the thick of the season and all is quiet! What about the close race for the bowl in B and will anybody catch the bradstreet in A? It can be done, assume the Bradstreet pumps in a cross wind and gets a 195 then one hour later the lane gets up and it's blowing down the paper and they get a 247....:)
Brad, Waterford is becoming the hancock crews favorite muster, you guys do an absolute fantastic job with the whole event and we are totally flexible and adaptable to whatever logistical needs you have. P.S. My son and the crew returned to the angry penguin saturday night add dropped some significant coinage, he was talking to the owner and called him on being hesitant to help sponsor the event, I think he will contribute next year.
Thank you all once again for coming to Waterford and helping provide a great show! The committee is already talking about some changes that we will need to make to pull this off again, especially logistics. We have another site that would be perfect, but it is not within walking distance of the village, so that has held us back in the past. I think we will need to reconsider that option more closely if we are to do this again. We welcome any constructive criticism, advice and ideas to improve the event- just send to my e-mail. Thank you to the many campers who left field in great condition! Congratulations to the winners! Hope to see you all again next year! Brad

Woke up this morning sore from head to toe and empty pockets, realized what a labor of love mustering is! Thank you so so much our gracious hosts in NY!
hope all had a safe retuen to home as well as a good day at waterford and greenwich musters. it was a great learning experience for the rough's crew, and we all had a great time. all were hyper about it and want to do it again next year,or at least again. i personnally could not be happier about our tubs first muster since 1939 and a crew that were all greenhorns. tyhe tips and hints from allthe experienced "tubbers" was very greatfully appreciated and will be followed up on,i'm sure.thanks again to all who attended, and i hope to see you all again in the not to distant future.thanks greatly to the league officials for their tolerance and understanding, godwilling we wil put on a better showing at the next one.
EVERYONE HAVE A SAFE TRIP TO N.Y

THANKS FOR A GREAT DAY !!!!!!!!In Westminster it's been awhile since the yellow and blue took the day together.the last and only other time was in colchester i think.
I want to THANK the Westminster Fire Department for putting on a hell of a good muster!!!! I agree with Ron that the setup was very good and I want to emphasize how impressed I was that each handtub had a good crew based upon the Westminster Fire Department providing personnel to fill the brakes of each tub--- I KNOW they were tired at the end of the day and it also was impressive to see "their" small cylinder B tub do so well!!!! I hope we are invited back there in years to come-- and I want to Thank the Hancock for doing the legwork and putting this muster together!!! Ron-- the Hancock had the absolute suckiest wind of the day and still put on a great showing-- you will have your day soon!!!! Congatulations to the Quohogs and Bradstreets on their IMPRESSIVE victories!!! See you all in New York--- it will be a lot of fun!!!!!
Even though we got our butt handed to us I say a very good muster. Very nice set up, although a little more spectator showing would have been nice. Congratulation to the Maug on the much deserved win.
Ron--- I was going to bring it to Westminster to kinda "test it" for the New York Musters but last weekend we took it to Spring Valley, NY (original home town) and did an open house and demonstration and got to pump it 9 or 10 times so I knew what had to be adjusted-- it will be in New York for those 2 musters-- See You this Saturday!!!
vince, what happened to you bringing the columbian?

The first muster of the season was GREAT!!! Congrats go to the Bradstreet and the Victor! Thanks to everyone that stayed at our house and leaving the yard the way they found it(except for the mud wrestling pit we call a front lawn, soon to be fixed!) We will see everyone in a few weeks!!

Bath was awesome! Here is a playlist of video clips. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=5F1823348BEDF916
Better bring rain gear boyos! Can't be as bad as the last Georgetown muster....CAN IT?
Mike, Front St @ Library Park. It should be around # 200 Front St. Hope to see you at the Gerry meeting tomorrow.
Does anybody have an address for the muster site for the GPS, or we just going for Main Street, Bath, Main? Weather looks very interesting for the first event!

It's really simple Earl, if you give me $5.00 I'll tell you or follow everyone else. the protection and the hancock ALWAYS know where they are going. as for me i just worry about where i've been. See you on Sat. and some of you on Fri.

I'm kind of surpized Fritz hasn't asked this yet--how the hell do we get to the Bath Legion post from say 295N?? I remember last year cruising around Bath and it looked like an old Keystone Cops movie-handtubs passing each other in opposite directions; then turning around and doing it again. Looking forward to opening day even if it is sacreligious to leave Marblehead on the 4th of July!!
Hey everyone!!!!!!!It's finally here...can't wait for opening day in Bath...good luck to all...BRADSTREET< TIME TO ROWDY UP!!!!!!!!!!!!

The article is ver good. Write please more
Sorry, please be at the American Legion at 10:30
Best of luck to everyone too! Should be a great season.
Just a few things on the Bath muster. All handtubs are welcome in the parade, the parade starts at 11 AM. The parade entry fee has been paid, so if you would like to be in the parade, please be at the American Legion Post 21, Congress Ave. Due to the parade running through the muster site, setup will hopefully start by 1 PM. If you dont want to be in the parade please have your handtub at the muster site by 11 to avoid the parade traffic .
My film "Mustering 101" has been accepted into the Marblehead Festival of Arts Film Fest in the documentary short category. The screening will take place July 2nd at 9:00 pm in Crocker Park. My thanks to Earl Doliber for sharing his articles on the sport for the movie's script, and to all the crews on all the machines for providing such great visuals! (not to mention a lot of audio I had to painstakingly edit to make sure the film is family friendly!) As of today, it's just one month to go until Bath!!!
Hi, good post. I have been wondering about this issue,so thanks for posting. I’ll definitely be coming back to your site.
You are kidding; right? Rumor is that a certain Hunneman tub from Maine uses sisal rope. I know of a few Hunnemans that use leather cups very similar to the Buttons; but I believe they have non-stock pistons built to accept the leathers. In fact; I don't know that I've seen a factory stock Hunneman piston!
dose any one know how to put the packing on or in the piston
OK, some say something, anything, it's time to get your game on!!
Quickest smoothest May meeting ever? Certainly the least contestested MA seat in the 40 years I've been going to meetings and probably since league's conception. Congrats Stan, It will be an honor sitting with you at the head table!
May 2, 2009, the 119th annual league meeting in East Greenwich RI. Don't forget to send in those reservations by April 25, 2009. See you there. Rick
just checking in and hoping everybody got thru the winter ok. only 12 saturdays to go WOOOO HOOOOO.see you in Maine!

Too many miles on the tires, can't hang, leaving youthful exuberance to those that are better equipped to handle it! Hence the phrase "Been There, Done That!" Now it's a spectator sport. FRITZ
Hey Fritz! If you want to get reminded of your younger years show up at the camping field the night of the 3rd!
Hi All, My nickels worth is...there is nowhere I would rather be than Bath on the 4th of July. It reminds me of our younger years which on every 4th it was Bath and sometimes elsewhere the next day. There is an option for those that would rather not Muster on the 4th, Stay Home! As for August, yeah that's gonna be a busy month but it's feast or famine and this year the banquet is in August. See you soon! FRITZ
Hey Ron- I couldn't agree more! When is the last time we turned down a muster date? As I said on this site back in Feb; don't make any plans for August. Plus the other one is on the 4th of July; which I hate. I know it has historic meaning to Bath; but it's the number one party day of the summer.
Is there any way we can move acouple of the August musters to the July? We always say yes to every request for a date, we need to try to spread out our schedule if the host is flexible.
Sorry to report that Bill Donovan, a founder of the Brocton Fire Museum and a retired Brocton, MA firefighter, died on 20 March. Dick Kenney
Hey Bruce- If you go back to the Handtubs.com homepage and scroll down a few headings; you'll find the 2009 schedule and 2008 results. I've been bugging the webmaster to bring the info over to this page, but no luck yet. Hope to see you on the muster field this summer!
Hi, I am looking for a schedule for 2009. I didn't know musters were even being still held. Being from Rockland, MA, I used to follow the King Phillip. Always had a great time Thanks, Bruce
The Oko website, www.okos.org is back up and running. Thank You Ray!!
The Oko's VFA is aware of the problem with its website. Rick

Hi Ron, Thank you for you kind words. Stan has been a great with his assistance during the transition. The biggest thing for me to do is to bring the checkbook to the musters! Everything else should fall into place. Your email address has been corrected on the NESVFL stationary template. Sorry if this caused any inconvenience to our members.
Rick, thank you for the schedule posting and also for taking on the responsility of League S&T. I'm sure you will do a great job and hope all support you! Please note my e-mail address as it is incorrect on the League letter head.
Hey Ed, Thank You for serving in the Navy. The schedule as of now is July 4th in Bath Maine, August 1st in Westminster Mass, Aug 8th in Waterford NY, Aug 9th in Greenwich NY, Aug 22 in Waterville Maine, Sept 12th in Wollwich Maine, Sept 26 in Newmarket NH. Hope this helps you out. Rick
Hey everyone, just checking in. I signed up with the Navy and have been in since September, i'm currently in Norfolk, VA. I havent been able to figure anything out about a positive schedule for the 2009 muster schedule. If someone could help me out and let me know what's planned so far, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hey Ron-I assume you've heard by now; but there really wasn't much excitement. Rick Bartlett was confirmed as Sec/Treas and there are 7 approved musters. (don't make any plans for August) It's not as much fun as the old days when we fought over issues. All the motions passed without comment. Still; it was great to see everyone and it kinda gets the juices flowing for the season. Too bad we couldn't move one of the August dates into May.
A couple things I just wanted to give a late congulations to the Hancock and Protection for the '08 victorys you guys did really good this season. See you all july 4th in BATH MAINE august 22 in waterville AND the 250th anneversary september 12 in WOOLWICH MAINE

Due to a small bout with the flu I was unable to attend the Meeting, anything exciting happen? I'm sure I missed a great meal typical of our Georgetown hosts.
Just a reminder of the NESVFL February meeting. February 7, 2009 in Georgetown, MA Hope to see you there.

Thanks to everyone for the support! This YouTube version is an early edit; I am zeroing in on finishing the thing for real soon, with credits etc. and will upload it someplace other than Youtube because it'll be too long for them (probably 12 minutes total...). After that I'll get it online someplace so everyone can use it and of course encourage linking and embedding it!
Erik - the video is great. With your permission, I would hope that David would post a link to it on the NESVFL section of the website. I also think that each VP should have a copy on a CD to show prospective muster hosts. It is a breif and comprehensive view of what we offer.
You never know who is still checking in on the site-but I hope people read Fritz' review and click on the link! You've likely all seen Erik and his camera; now see some of his work. It's his best yet in my mind. The voice-over helps and most all of the league is represented. Pretty good stuff! If you wander around in You-Tube, you'll find more of Erik's clips.
Eric, You deserve a short film Oscar for your muster clip!! What a great portrayal of we all know and love. Let's find a way to get this clip out there to folks that love fire stuff and antiques that still do what they were intended to...only better!! We need to get this to the right folks and it will be like the 'field of dreams' firefighter style. Wow, I think it's great!!! FRITZ
Since very few people seem to know what I am talking about when I mention I joined the Okos and love the sport of mustering, I figured I needed to cut together something like this that explains the concept. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSogrIUBcko I adapted an article Earl Doliber wrote for a local paper and cut together some clips from 2008. I will add some old photos to the first few minutes but can't do that with my home computer (which a woman for whom I do some handyman type chores was going to throw in the trash!). I tried to get as many different machines/crews in this as possible....
Merry Christmas to all in handtub-land
Hello- We are looking forward to having you all back next year in Waterford. We have added a large number of photos from this year's muster on our website. More will be added in the upcoming weeks including some video. www.waterfordheritageday.com Enjoy! Brad
I'm not sure about the frog sex either but most of the rest sounds pretty good
Hey Dave-Looks like a dirty spamm alert! What do you suppose "frog sex" is? I'm afraid to open any of this jive! If there's not a computer virus attached; there's bound to be STD's!! See you at the auction!
I would like to thank everyone that came and helped with the Pump off. It was great to see the Atlantic moving water, not just leaking. It was also nice to see some people from the other hand tubs there, the Lane, Tiger, Protection, Oko's and about 150 people to watch, and pump. Now if we could just get them to a muster. I hope everyone had a great time. I also want to thank the Dirk and the Gerry 5 for inviting us back to the Club for a meal. They even let us wear our Atlantic shirts. Can't wait for next season.
Gerry #5- 151-4" Atlantic (while clearing air) 167-7"---Incredibly crazy winds in bowl. Some of the Gerry streams left water 20 ft on BOTH sides of the "paper" (tape on tar) In my very biased opinion; it was all in the pipework. Big tip, played low. It was good to see the Gerry with a crew and the Atlantic moving water. Hopefully Mike picked up some hometown support and we'll see it out next year!
Atlantic won
what were the scores for the pump-off I'm in NC on vaca. & wondering
Just wanted to wish Atlantic 1 Good Luck at the pumpoff on Sunday. My brother, Carl was involved with the Atlantic in the 70's and 80's. Someone mentioned his El Camino, but how many of you remember the red, white and blue schoolbus he also used ?? Hope that the Trophy remains at the Swampscott Town Hall.
More info on the Pump-Off see Link http://www.wickedlocal.com/swampscott/news/x1776786912/Swampscotts-Atlantic-1-challenged-to-pump-off-by-Marblehead-hand-tub
ALl right everyone here are the detailsFor the Gerry 5 Atlantic 1 Pump-Off: Sunday, October 19, 2008 @ 11:00am. The site is the New Swampscott High School 200 Essex Street, Swampscott, MA 01907. It's your last chance to Pump a hand tub before the snow flies, and the only chance to pump the Atlantic this season. I hope some of you can make it. It isn't a full blown muster, but it is always interesting.
Ron, That sounds great. I hope to see her back in action. I truly miss having it out on the muster field where it belongs. I will see you at the meeting.
Mike, I will give you a hand getting ready for next season. Also will give you +-10 pumpers. I'll talk to you @ the meeting.
Ok, so the Atlantic hasn't been out in a couple of years mostly due to the high amount of travel I have to do. I haven't given up yet though. There will be a Pump-Off between the Atlantic and the Gerry 5. The venue has changed to the new High School just around the corner from the train tracks. Some of you guys that have been around will remember the site called Jackson Park. It will be on the 19th of October @11:00am. If I can generate any interest from some new people I will bring it out next year. more details to follow at the League Meeting.
Hey Vince; I'm sure you've already thought of this; but.... Maybe you and Columbian should take a road trip to RI. Now that the Volunteer is walled in, perhaps the pent up muster enthusiasm could be transfered to the new Button on the block?
Ron--- Thanx for asking; Earl has it right as usual!!! We (Michelle, Ryan and Myself) are picking up the Columbian from Rob on Tuesday morning-- and as usual he has done an incredible restoration-- he is an artist!! It will be at the Polish Club on the 4th for you guys to take a look at; it has some unique adaptions to the I-beams that make it a "1 push", 6" one lever system to lock it in place--- perhaps Joe Sousa and the kids can manage to get it on the platform!!! Anyway, our desire is to be the "2nd best" 20 man "A" Handtub in the League after the Oko's!! The tub is from Spring Valley, NY and we are tentatively going there in 2011 for the fire departments 150th anniversary-- Victor is going in to Rob for repairs and new gold leafing--- Pump Base is rotted---We look forward to seeing you all in Newmarket, and Thank "Everyone" for being forward thinking enough to keep us "low crew" teams pumping in the League-- the split of prize money for gas AND the help from Big crews keeping us going!!! Congratulations to the Hancock and the Protection for winning the championships this year!!!! What an enjoyable year it was!!! Take Care All and see you soon---
Hey Ron; It was strangely quiet here even during the season!! Are there only a half dozen of us checking in? I'll tell Mike you're missing the Atlantic. He has good intentions every year and the usual promises of help; but when it comes down to muster day and there's just Mike and Carol.....There is supposed to be a Gerry/Atlantic pump-off this year (in the next month sometime). Perhaps if it happens, some Swampscott folks will catch the bug and come out next year. Expect to see Columbian in '09. Maybe the Hancock guys can break that one too?
Wow real quiet after the last drop of water hits the paper! Vince, is the Columbia coming out next year? Who knows how to get in touch with Mike with the Atlantic? We need that machine at musters! Earl?
Hey Fritz, if not for one bad "luck of the draw" and a missed chance due to nozzle experimenting, the Lane would have done more than adding a little drama to the A race......but that is why there is always next year!
Wow, what a season. thanx to all the hosts and especially brad and his folks in Waterford. it was also great to go back to Bath on the 4th of july weekend. Let's not forget the hospitality in westford and our own steve cashman, he had a blast !! as always newbury stepped up and the neps were there to round out the season. congrats to the league champs and it's a nice feeling to know that the lane was able to add a little drama to the 'A' race. Sad about carl, he added some real fun to the contests and also the league meetings in the 70's and 80's. It's a little bittersweet that we had an intense season and it feels a little strange to not have a muster destination this weekend. It was nice to get it over short and sweet but i'll miss not going anywhere the next couple of weeks. perhaps i'll just grab a beer and go keep the lane company for a few minutes this weekend, i know she will wonder why the wheels are not rolling, the brakes are vacant and why the gauge reads zero. I'll shout a little profanity at her just to take the edge off (her not me)!! Later FRITZ
Thank you to Brad and the Village of Waterford for all your hard work and an OUTSTANDING weekend. I know I speak on behalf of all League members when I say that we're all looking forward to another one next year. To the rest of the League, I must say that this season (although short) was one of the best I've seen. Great job to all the tubs and their crews, I hope next year is even better. See you all in October!!
Waterford was awesome! I thank everybody for all of your encouragement in my videotaping project and for making me feel like part of the gang. Thanks to all of you I got some amazing footage. I've been editing what I got in Waterford, but since I shot four hours this time it's going a bit slow. What I have managed to cut together and upload so far can be seen on this playlist on YouTube. (I will be adding to it as I can, but the web address for it will stay the same so check back in over the next couple of days): http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=37C35066F33FB9EC Just a quick note about things I miss sometimes. When I wander off to get a beer or whatever, sometimes I leave the camera running by itself. This occasionally means the tape runs out and I miss some of the action. I don't mean to slight anyone so please don't take it personally! Next year I am hoping to be able to get at least one other person running a second camera so I get more of the fun. Ultimately I would love to have four cameras; two on the machine, one on the pipe platform, and one out on the paper. Who knows, maybe I'll win the lottery between now and next season. For now it's all I can do to get Salem Access TV to let me check out a camera for all these Summer weekends when everybody else wants one too....
Carl Reardon of the Atlantic of Swampscott. For old timerslike me, youmay remeber that he towed the handtub behind his El Camino.
Just a follow-up- we did find a couple of pipes that appear to be off of a trailer. They are metallic in color and are closed at one end, they are about a foot long (from memory). Please contact me if these are yours. Brad info@waterfordmuseum.com 518-238-0809
On behalf of the Waterfor dHeritage Day Committee I woudl like to thank you to all of you who attended the Waterford Heritage Day muster this past weekend. Although, the local crowd was not as large as we may have expected it was still the largest and most successful Heritage Day by far. So we will take the lessons learned and put them towards next year in hopes that we will be able to do this again. we took a lot of pictures that will end up on the H-Day website and I would be happy to share them with you via e-mail if you want some of them. A few of you made the local papers in photos and in text- Ron B. from the Quags got an entire article, the Hancock got a nice shot in action, Earl and Dave F. had a nice picture of them working the pipe in the Troy Record and the Schnecetady Gazette featured an image of the TW Lane in action and a nice shot of Dick M from the Gerry 5 on top of his machine. I plan to scan each of them when I get the chance if you would like a copy just e-mail me. Thanks again for coming to Waterford and helping make our event such a success! Brad Utter, Chairperson of the Waterford Heritage Day Committee and Director of the Waterford Museum.
What a great Muster! Excellent hosts, great location, a well run event! Maybe we'll have a rematch there next year since a 6 inch Hunneman had the longest stream and a Jeffers having the 2nd.
Many thanks to all who helped the Oko win in Newbury. It was a great feeling to have a great crew pumping. It's been quite a while since our last victory. Our president, Harold Hansen, has the machine in excellent working condition. Our walking beam is still in perfect shape. Once again Thank You from the Oko's.
We broke two walking beams in as many weeks....this should prove that the Hancock has a crew with some serioulsy strong dudes....and that was without Jeff, arguably our stongest pumper, he'll be at Waterford so watch out iron! Safe travel to all and see ya there!
Who is holding back on Waterford? I figured we'd have more than the 11 regulars; not less. The Pokie should be there, maybe the new guys from Westminster, one of Bob Blackadar's machines, and maybe even the Volunteer and Defiance could be dusted off for the trek to the "home of the Button engines". What's up with 8 entered??
Hello- we are looking forward to seeing you all in Waterford, New York in a couple of weeks. For all of the latest details on the event please check our website at www.waterfordheritageday.com. We are adding more information daily so check back often. So far we have 8 engines signed up and 2 more have expressed that they will do so last minute. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Thanks, Brad Utter 518-238-0809

Here is my YouTube playlist for clips of Newbury: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=972398A2ABE54495
Great Muster in Westford. I put clips of it up on YouTube for anybody interested. I'll have some dvd copies of it in Newbury and will be taping there too. It will be broadcast on Salem (Mass.) Access Television starting this weekend, and I can make it available to your cable access channel if you get me a website address or a phone number. I cut it to 59 minutes so there is room for a sponsor ad. This is the playlist of the whole Muster: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=083ECED6123D5DFC And the clips of the winners specifically are Hancock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=296Q4i2BEYs Lane: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APclrrCLlbE See you in Newbury! Erik
Bill fact that you had the Muster was great & if Westford decides to have another we would be more than happy to go back. & It was good to see your dad again. however he can no longer need to say 2.5 at role call of associations he looks like just one now.

Let me add to the positive feedback on the Bath Muster! Good job by the hometown boys to tie in with other events. Spectators add alot to the day and we even drew a few TV newspeople. It was a touch of the "good old days."
Bath was awesome! Thanks to everyone for all the effort. Congratulations to the Bradstreet and Victor, who got to take home the trophies.
Great muster...congrats to winners! Let's hope this becomes an annual event for us.
"Schultzy" is out of the hospital and home. He will be laid up for a while and not able to go to the musters right away. He's had a real rough time of it and would like to from his friends.
Hey Dave--Are the results of the drawing hidden somewhere on the site? I need to get the entrants to the insurance people. Thanks-Earl
Hey Everyone out there in handtub land! John and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to Bath, Me. next weekend. It should be a great time for all!! It certainly is time for a muster to take place in it's birth place. So lets get PUMPED for a great muster like no other!!
"Schultzie" is in the Beverly, Ma. hospital with a serious leg infection, (cellulitus). He has just been moved from ICU to a regular room. Cards may be sent to: Norman Stone, 170 County Rd., Ipswich, Ma. 01938
Cant believe how quiet this site is.......less than one month to opening day.....rowdy up muster people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh Come on now! Not a word here after a pretty important meeting? First, Thanks to the Hoxie for a very nice meal and their hospitality! Next, Congratulations to Steve Young for his election to the Sec/Treas post! This is the most important position in the League. May he "Act wisely and well" as we struggle to keep this thing going. Congrats also to Ron Young as our 6th V-P. Let's hope that dividing the prize money to help offset expenses keeps our present active roster in tact and maybe helps a few more out of the barn.
Doesn't seem like a League meeting week without someone asking directions....since Fritz is already there; I guess I'll step up. 95 south all the way to exit 90? Follow that toward downtown and look for the RR station? That's what's in the back of my mind. Any help with some details? Thanks!
Wayne Martin's obituary and memorial service information can be read at http://www.wickedlocal.com/marblehead/news/obituaries/x1995246977 Wayne worked on the Gerry handtub for more than 40 years, worked on the Okos, the Tiger, and others. Thanks Stan for posting the early info about Waterford and Bath. It certainly helps Sue & I to plan travel as early as possible. If anyone working on muster could post a potential date as it beomces known, we may able to head off or work out date conflicts.

Waterford! Cool! Who's the sponsor? Are they moving up their "Heritage Days" or whatever from Oct? Homecoming for the Buttons should be a good trip.
Good job Schultz

Happy New Year to all!!!!! Hi Woody!!!!!
Happy New Year to all!!!!! Hi Woody!!!!!
Hello Jonny-You should have just received the invitation-mine came yesterday. The meeting is at the Gerry #5 on Beacon St. Marblehead.
where is the feb meeting?
Guys, One of the Salem Machines is the Union, which I restored in 1975 and Mustered it in the league in 1976....It only attended the Newburyport muster (actually beat the OKO's Earl)! It has 8-1/2" cylinders and is in fine shape! I have the old muster history of the machine and several before and after pictures in my collection! I know they put new wheels on in the 90's.. Mike
Hey Woodie; You are welcome. Glad it helped make your Christmas! You didn't need to thank me 7 times! Looks like Dave cleaned up the extras-what is it with the site that it tells you your post is in error? Maybe at the Feb meeting we'll learn a little more about the Salem tubs for sale? I'm not buying-got my hands full now.
Hi All, I have the contact for the engine(s) etc. in Salem, Ma. Contact Thomas Ford, his email is; tom.ford@MiddleOak.com please, serious inquiries only, this shouldn't be an invition to 'show and tell' Thanx and Happy New Year, see you soon! FRITZ
thank u for my VIXEN t-shirt i got it in time for x-mas in the mail and had no idea at all what it was in the package until i opened it thanks again for the best present/thing that happened on another lousy x-mas it put a smile on my face i will pay for the mailing or promise to pay earl in protection shirts ur choice its up to u i will check back for ur choice soon and please leave ur mailing address adios and stay warm!
Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year to all! Woody, an indoor, winter muster could be coordinated, however, I think it would be unadvisable due to the fact that somebody is bound to get drunk and forget to drain the tub and end up with split waterways.
MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'ALL!!! BEST WISHES TO THE MUSTER FRATERNITY
Hey Woody-I'll say one thing; you sure are persistant! Either e-mail me with your address or post it here and promise to at least pay the postage and I'll get you a vintage yet collectible VIXEN shirt-maybe even in time for Christmas; but certainly in time for you to wear on New Year's Eve.
IF U COULD HAVE TOLD THE FIRST LIFE MEMBERS OF UR LEAGUE [THIS LEAGUE] THAT U COULD SOMEDAY TALK LIKE THIS NEVERMIND GOIN TO MARS OR GAS POWERED TRANSPORT OR FLIGHT ECT THAT WE COULD FROM TEAM TO TEAM OR TUB TO TUB COMMUNICATE HERE U WOULD HAVE BEEN DROWNED AT THE WATER SUPPLY [HUNG LIKE THE WITCH] TO GET TO MY POINT IN THIS LONGEST RUN ON SENTENCE [LIKE THE LONGEST STREAM OF THE MUSTER 4 THE DAY] SINCE THIS SITE WAS STARTED I JUST WANTED TO WASTE THE FUTURE READERS TIME TO TELL U THAT ITS TIME TO CHANGE AS A LEAGUE AND AS A SPORT FOR OUR OWN ENTERTAINMENT AND SURVIVAL AND HAVE LEAGUE OR NON-LEAGUE MUSTERS IN JANUARY OR MAYBE MARCH AND IF THE COLD WEATHER KILLS THIS IDEA THEN LETS GO INDOORS FOR A MUSTER INSTEAD THAT WOULD ALSO BE A FIRST TIME IN THE INDOORS IF U R READING THIS HERE MAYBE AN INDOOR MUSTER COULD BE LIKE A TEA PARTY OR A SUDDEN WEATHER CHANGE OR A SOLAR PANEL OR A 3 RING CIRCUS OR MAYBE EVEN LIKE GETTIN A FLAT TIRE OR RUNNIN OUT OF GAS MOST OF THE READERS HERE COULD RELATE TO THAT NOW WE HAVE AAA AN FIX A FLAT I SUGGEST THAT OUR 1ST INDOOR MUSTER IS AT A YWCA WITH A BIG POOL AN VIDEO REPLAYS 4 OUR JUDGES AN THIS IS MY TRASH TALK STATEMENT 4 NOW WHERE IS MY VIXEN THE SHIRT THAT IS ADIOS!!.......
Trying to get more info but those are the engines, not sure that they are for sale, perhaps looking for a place to display them, when I hear more I will write FRITZ
Hey Fritz-Where did you hear this? I know there is a smallish side stroke machine named "Union" that was owned by the Holyoke Mutual Ins Co in Salem. They used to parade it at Marblehead Musters. I wouldn't be surprized if there's a Hunneman there too since Ed Tufts (Hundreds of Hunnemans) used to be tied in with Holyoke. The company is now called something like "Middle Oak"- are they selling off the handtubs???
Hi All, Population explosion? Who knows anything about several engines in Salem MA. Looks like a Hunneman and an small A size tub named 'Union' as well as a hose reel. They may be looking for a buyer or a new home so....if anyone's interested I may have a contact. Thanx Fritz p.s. Hope you figure out what's causing all the new arrivals FRITZ
Congrats on all the new batch born! I myself have a Grandson soon 2 b born in Jan 08' Evan Jacob Young. Have seen the ultra sound, He's a future pumper alright

Here is the update on Melissa Whitney-Farris' baby. Emma Farris was born Friday, Nov 2, 2007 at 6:05am, 9lbs 10oz, 21" long. Mom and Baby Emma are resting comfortably.
OK-I can't stand the quiet here-The big news from the League Meeting was Stan's upcoming retirement. Any nominations from the floor for the position of Sec/Tres for the NESVFL??

ONE CUP AINT ENOUGH.NEXT YEAR WE WANT THEM BOTH... THANX TO ALL THAT MADE THIS YEAR HAPPEN.HAD LOTS OF FUN.LET GET TOGETHER NEXT YEAR AND DO IT AGAIN.SEE ALL IN ABOUT 36 SATURDAYS
I got a reminder of a variable for winning a muster. We talk about the engine, size of the crew, experiance of the crew, pipe, pipeman, luck of the draw...The foreman can also make the difference, we won the gorham muster because of an outstanding performance of our foreman!
The Marblehead Muster really did have a "good old days" feel to it! The credit belongs to the Martins-David was the real driving force in getting it done. The parade, the announcer, a semblance of a crowd, every machine with at least a workable crew...a good day and a reminder that the sport can be like with some extra effort.
FYI: Norman Stone, father of 6th V.P. & long time Timekeeper, Norman "Shultzy" Stone has passed away. The wake will be at the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich, Ma. from 4 to 8 on Wed., Sept. 5, 2007 with a funeral service at the Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 6. Condolences may be sent to the Stone Family at 170 County Rd., Ipswich, Ma. 01938. Stan Dixon, Sec.
I want to thank everyone that came to Marblehead it was a great day and I hope everyone had a good time. %0 years ago we had 22 hand tubs this year we had 12 pumping and 1 display. out of the 22 6 are still in compite to day. thanks again.
I would like to thank the members of the Oko's, Gerry 5, and all of the other Hand Tubs that got on the brakes for the Atlantic. I would also like to thank the HANCOCK crew for giving us a hand. It shows real sportsmanship to help the competion. We hope to be back next year for a full season.
I'm not sure if the okos, gerry or both put on the muster, but what a GREAT job! Nice field, good crowd of local support, an announcer!...sorta felt like a muster from the good old days!
Attention all who have mini hand tubs...The M A Pickett Jr will challenge any mini hand tub before the Marblehead muster. A mini trophy is up for grabs! Leave a comment here on the handtubs.com site if you are planning to challenge us. Thanks, see everyone on Saturday
Just a little note reminding everyone Oct. 6th will be the absolute deadline for T-shirts for the quilt. We will be starting the layout for it shortly after. Thank you to those of you who have already got shirts to me. I have over thirty.
Fritz, what's up with the pipe we've been using? the machinist in cali will have a new one ready for us next season using the head you sent me with a stainless steel barrel. I could've got it ready for this season if I bugged him but since he's doing it for free I did'nt. give me a call @ 978-833-7918 to discuss.
Is there a kind and generous person or person(s) out there that would let an aging handtub and crew,(especially the foreman) beg, borrow, steal, swipe, buy, rent, lease or otherwise avail themselves of a playpipe for competition purposes. if you are this person drop me a note. Thanx FRITZ HILBERT
AMEN to Bo!! let us never forget the beer, another very important factor I overlooked!
alot of things can determine where that dime size drop lands.I remember a long time ago i over heard an old timer talking to another old timer about it and he said that over all what makes the water go is "!!!!BEER,LOT's of beer!!!!"

I went to the newberryport muster(first time) with my 10yrold son we had a great time, i think my son liked getting wet more than seeing the tubs working. I on the other hand enjoyed seeing the tubs in action. that was a fantastic show.thanks to all that joined in that was one heck of an event. I hope to see it again soon. thanks kenny Stromburge for having us along.
Mike, I've heard that the pipe the pipeman is holding may also make a difference, I've also heard that the "luck of the draw" can make a difference and also how well the hand tub works can make a difference. But to quote the late freddie knight, "there's no substitution for muscle"
Its amazing what difference a good pipeman makes for an engine like the Hancock. Muscle is nice but its not everything
Looking like the bowl may be decided in Gorham!
I'd like to take a minute to thank everyone in the league for inviting us to show the Alway's Ready at Ashburnham this weekend. I especially want to thank those who stuck around to help get her 'wet' for the first time in many years. It was alot of fun and I appreciated all the kind comments on the tub. Hope to see you all again soon.
I don't know if Dave has rules about selling on his website; but I'll chance it. If anyone would like one of the OKO's ornaments, please give us an order at Ashburnham. We sold out the first batch and hope to have a second order in time for the Marblehead Muster. If you'd like one in time for Christmas, let us know now. Thanks!
The "Always Ready" Westminster's newly restored handtub will also be on display at Cushing
Hey Steve- Thanks for the kind word. No reason to start the insurance thing all over again; but in cases like this, we can be glad we have it. Per the last two posts-We are all in this together despite our competition and our differences. To steal a phrase from Stan- We all need to work at "Keeping the Tradition Alive."
Everyone knows my stance on the insurance issue. That said, I would like to publicly thank Earl for his help in getting the proper paperwork to the folks at Cushing Academy on VERY short notice to make sure that the Ashburnham Muster could go forward. Thank You Earl. Steve
Thanks to the crew of the Hancock for pumping the Gerry last Saturday. For a change, we had some of our own crew but I am sure the Hancock group made a difference. It has been six years since our last win, and it is nice to end that streak.
See you all down on Handtub lane!!!!!! Go Bradstreet !!!!!!!!
No problem thanx Dave. See you Saturday
The pumping order has now been posted, sorry for the delay. http://www.handtubs.com/2007NESVFL/72807.htm
anyone know the pumping order yet we pumped the tub sunday and every thing is working great
Could you post the pumping order for Newbury. Thanx FRITZ
newbury.............bring it on!
newbury.............bring it on!
Yet another Young family member born last night to help with keeping our Mustering tradition alive. Hopefully she (no name yet) and her peers will be able to be mustering in the years to come. We will see you all in Newbury!
To echo Ron's Remarks--- that was a Great Muster Richard Put on!!! I don't think I have seen a muster in a lot of years that "everyone" was SO close and the Winner or 2nd Place finisher could have almost been any tub!!! Class B was wicked close--- as was 2nd Place in A!! Congratulations to the winners and I hope the whole year is like that!!! I also want to note and Thank the Hancock crew for putting a few members on "many" handtubs, and working on using their crew to "help" one or two tubs per muster in addition to their pumping partners--- it gives some of us "crewless" tubs that make up part of our "show" some encouragement!!!! See you all in Newbury!!!
Great 1st muster! cogratulation Bradstreet and Tiger. Hope it does become an annual event. Cudos to Richard Harclerode for his continued hard work and dedication in hosting this event.
hey fritz! we also have crew member coming up from Greenville SC to spend saturday in the clouds, such a small world!
Fritz: See www.castleintheclouds.org The website includes directions. Click on Visit the Castle and then Visitor Information
I make a motion that those engines that intend to enter each and every muster in a muster season fill out ONE application for all events. Any one second the motion?? See you in the Clouds FRITZ
Could someone post best route from 93 to Castle in the Clouds? Will be heading up Sat. morning and don't want to get all bolluxed up getting there. thanx FRITZ

Thanx Earl!!! I am glad you are thinking about me!!! I'm heading down to Charleston, SC to deliver a Hunneman Handtub and Hosereel on Friday--Not Mine but a friends--- HOPEFULLY, I will not have problems with the truck like I did delivering the Handtub to Maryland last October!!! Richard said he has fixed it whatever that means!!! LOL I hope he can come do a service call in New Jersey if I break down!!!
Just so "everyone" knows-We got a post card today that says the start time in Moultonboro has been moved up to noon from one pm. (I guess that means you Vince, since no one else seems to be involved here anymore) Is there activity on the Bradstreet site? I lost their address.
Hey Vince, I'm here also! Come on down this Thursday @ 5:30 pm and help us celebrate summer. We will pump the Oko and the Gerry will pump (or just build pressure).
Earl-- I do!!! It is often just you and I on your site and this one!!! (NO, not true-- Rick is always on Yours!!)
Did anyone notice that the invitations are out for the first muster? Does ANYONE read the site anymore? Come on guys-It's muster time!
Did anyone (David F?) go to California and pump the Alabama Coon? What went on at the Class C Nationals??
Home town muster again thats sweet!! Hope to see you all this season I hope its a good one. I also hope some of you guys built up your crews although I dont mind pupming for others they just way harder to pump than the Hancock. Good luck to all this season.
Cushing Academy has approved our request for Sat. Aug 4th
Boy; I sure can kill a chat page; can't I? Any news on Ashburnham muster date; or Falmouth? Temps in the single digits today, imagine running a handtub to a fire in this weather. Chopping a hole in the ice for water...
Hey Guys; Always good to see 'everyone' in between seasons! As I asked yesterday, if anyone has a probable muster date for 2007, please e-mail me or post it here. The insurance renewal process begins before the May meeting and it's in our best interest to have a solid idea before requesting the quote. Thanks- See you all in Moultonboro!!
Muster September 8-- Gorham, NH in conjunction with the NH State Fireman's Convention is ON!!! Will apply for date at the Winter Meeting--- Richard also is working on one in Tuftenboro in July--- See you all in a couple of weeks!!!!
Hey everyone, The Oko's.org site has started a new page. Ray Lemieux has put on the site a mini handtub page Right now there is a pic of the hancock Jr, from 1959 or 60, and Gerry Jr, from 1956. If any of you have any pitures of mini handtubs that you would like to share, old or new, please forward them to either me or Ray. Check out the pics and see if you can identify people from musters past. See you all on Feb 3. Rick
Happy New Year to all. Wishing all a safe and healthy new year.

I am VERY happy to see that my 5 time comment here has generated some feedback!!! Look how dead it was before!!! Yes Earl, I am negative but truthful--- and Ron, my heart for this League and the organizations is there--- BUT look at the ages of all of us!! Ron, fortunately your Grandchildren will progress (and I hope my kids do) in keeping this together!!! We are all quite the fraternity if you look at it more socially!!! Hope you all enjoy the Christmas Season and I look forward to arguing with all you guys in February!!!
I've said it once and I'll say it again....Don't count the Lane out!!! They have a play pipe that aint much better than holding your hand over the end of the hose, that will change and there will be no beating them. And Earl...."Goonies never say die" When I was seven years old I over heard some dudes from a B tub that had just pumped themselves into first place, they where going over the score card to see what threats they had coming up, they laughed when they got to the Hancock. At that point we had a crew of about 2 1/2 adults and always came in at the bottom of the heap. I vowed to myself that some day I would get a crew together and show them bastards. It will soon be my Grand Children that will be keeping things going....cause Goonies never say die!
First-That "me on top" was bogus-whoever posted it didn't even bother to copy my e-mail address. Vince shouldn't be so negative (if truthful). Hancock has class B sewed up; but it doesn't have to be that way (Hey Vince-remember we gave them some competition a few times) it all comes down to crew. In class A it will likely remain either Protection or Bradstreet because they've got the manpower. Protection has a growing number of younger guys that is a good sign for them. We've got a few kids interested and with a few local musters, we can play spoiler. You can't give up on a season before it starts!! Odds are it will be the same old, same old and old is getting to be a key word. Without some new blood this thing is really gonna die soon. We can't blame the winners for our lack of crew. The "haves" can't blame the "have nots" for getting discouraged. As I've often lamented in our newsletter, it is frustrating to have the machine, the skilled positions covered, and no horsepower. It's not much fun to lose all the time at a sport you love; but that love keeps us going-at least for awhile yet.

It's not much fun to lose all the time at a sport you love; but that love keeps us going-at least for awhile yet.
This posting may show up twice but definatley not 5 times :) Vince, as I said in a post that may be lost in cyberspace, you do have a chance if you hang in there and the reasons are in your posting. The Biggest reason the Hancock has been so successful as of late is Jon, Jeff and Jill along with the youthful peers the have recruited. You have done a great job, as was demonstrated at the Newmarket muster getting your kids involved. As you stated us "old timers" get tired and then we die. Youth is the key ingredient to the survival of any organization.
Yeah, I know it showed up 5 times!!! LOL I will put in a damn message to Verizon for us all!!!! Guess you can just figure I meant what I said by 5!!!! Have a Great Holiday Season!!!!
Hey all--- hope everyone had a Great Thanksgiving and have all their Christmas Gifts ready!!! RON-- you are trying to get response as I can see so I will tell you EXACTLY as it "probably" will be next year!!! Maybe someone will be all ticked off (like Earl) and write here!!! PREDICTION: SAME OLD, SAME OLD-- whether you guys (Hancock) pump the Tiger or not, you guys have the crew, the machine, the enthusiasm, and the Pipeman to beat the Hell out of the rest of us!! Hancock in B-- A will be the same also-- George with the Bradstreet/Quohog and Protection with you Guys will demolish the rest of us as OKO's may be a hell of a competitor with 20 people but that ain't gonna win it!!! I am also so impressed with the staying ability of Fritz and the Lane with you guys and wish I could believe that those 2 tubs could win but I don't think so!!! Other than the Columbian, I see no new machines this year and the Columbian will pump in just 1 or 2 Musters as it has no crew unless the Volunteer wants to join in--- it is a really an "impressive" machine based on history and build-- but Ryan, Michelle and I don't have a chance-- Neptune not showing as far as I have heard from Richard!!! Musters: Looks like Spring Valley, NY in 2011 (Columbian originally from there!!) -- Thanks to George, Richard is working with Epping, NH for this coming summer and I have a good possibility of Gorham, NH on 9/2 or 8 in Gorham, NH depending on Fundraising--- Ron-- this Muster stuff is great fun and I hope it continues but us "old guys" are kinda getting tired!!! Ask Jim from the Gerry, and Richard from the Tiger, and Flash from the Union, and Vince from the Victor, and Butch from the Neptune, and Earl/Rick from the Okos's-- How many will that leave??? It is sad-- BUT Merry Christmas anyway!!!! LOL See you all in February so you can yell at me again!!!! LOL

C'mon Earl! No predictions or info (un- substantiated or not)for next season?
Hey..I just to see my name on top.
Well, I guess to "stay at the top of the page you have to post a comment. Who knows of any definates for next year? Who knows of any probables? Will there be any new engines? Will we loose any old engines? Will the Bradstreet reclaim the bowl? Will the Hancock retain the bowl?

Hi Steve, Have a Happy Christmas Season !!!!!!!
Earl, we just like to see your name at the top of the page.
I almost hate to post. It seems my name just sits here for a month at a time! I just tried the Bradstreet site, and there's no one over there either! Christmas Walk Parade in Marblehead this Saturday. Both OKOMMAKAMESIT and GERRY will be in the parade and the OKO's Hall will be open for a few hours afterward. If you haven't been to our museum; come on down early afternoon. Maybe buy a few OKO's T-shirts for Christmas presents- even got some clearance specials on the old style red shirts for only $5. You 'Streeters can show up to rebuild your tub in OKO's gear and give George a heart attack.... Merry Christmas to All and Best Wishes for a great 2007!!!

Don't worry, we're still here!!
Wow! Almost a full month without a single posting. How about a roll call of engines? Oko's present! Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Hi Dave; The muster crowd appears to be in hibernation like bears or something! There's a little activity over on our site (www.okos.org)go to the chat page. There is a link here on the "red site" to the Bradstreet site back around July 20th I think. I would guess you might find someone from the Bradstreet who could give you a Quag member's e-mail. I don't have one. A fairly large number of our fraternity aren't wired yet. There are at least a dozen "regulars" out there who monitor these site though; so if you have a question, it'll likely get an answer.
Hi everyone! I'm looking for a contact from the engine foreman of the Quansigamond of Bath, ME. Can anyone out there help me out??? Thanks, Dave Martin PS-Is there another web site where everyone went to or is this just the post-season quiet time???
3 out of 5 not to bad.Good thing this is not nascar?
Dave Martin thank you from the GOVERNOR BRADSTREET YOU GUYS ROCK PEACE OUT.
Congratulations to the protection and the hancock. To Dave Martin thanks for the place to camp and the place to muster.
Hi All,
Thanks for all the help with the Colchester Muster. Dave and his guys at Colchester are great hosts and I want them to know that it was appreciated by all of us. Perhaps we can go back in a couple of years and do it again!! Congratulations to the league champs and we'll have to wait 'til next year to try again!!

Hey David-That was a GREAT posting! Even though we had a rough day (a bad day mustering still beats a good day at the office) I enjoyed the muster. The interest you and those locals who did attend expressed was much appreciated. I enjoyed the food too-pulled pork and chili is a welcome change from the usual burger and dogs! You guys were great hosts; perhaps we can do it again in conjunction with a local celebration that might draw some spectators.
Congratulations to the Hancock and the Protection on repeating as League Champions!!!!
Dave and Colchester FD--- I'm sure I speak for all NESVFL members, guests, and pumping crews-- We want to Thank-You for inviting us thru Fritz and the Mystic crew; everyone I talked to had a great time and really appreciated the hospitality you and your Department provided to us!!! It was a great set-up and a great Muster to end the season with!!! I for one will definitely look forward to and enter any other Muster you may sponsor in the years ahead!!! Thanx Again and have a good fall!!!
THANK YOU!
I can't express in words how wonderful today was for me. You guys are TOP SHELF! As an occasional outsider to the League and its' normal season, let me offer you some neutral observations and commentary.
YOU people, all of you, young, old, veterans and novices are the ones that make these events happen. We had the PRIVILEDGE to provide space for today's Muster to take place. YOU folks did all the traveling, did all the logistical set up and take down, continue the tradition, pumped your souls out, and extended your friendship to us.
YOU truly are a special dedicated bunch of brothers and sisters and in my eyes all went home winners. YOU are the ones that carry on the centuries old tradition of muster competition. Although we never have been a mustering FD, I feel a connected thread to your endeavors because of simple fact that our old Hayward No.1 served our town for over 75 years!
Anyway, let me step off my soapbox and say THANK YOU to all who took time away from your families to be with us today. You are always welcome here and we look forward to our next League muster.
Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't thank the crew who spent the night at Shuster Park and truly left it in better shape when you left. (That almost guarantees you an admission ticket for the next time!)
To all of you who were here today in any capicity, Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stay Safe & Healthy
Dave
Y PUMP 4 ANY1ELSE WHEN Y CAN STROKE THE GOVERNOR!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi, There WILL BE a parade, very short, it's just up the driveway of the school and if you click on the Colchester muster you will get the info you need as we as the pumping order. Lodging is nearby, probably in the Norwich area but should be available. There are a number of hotels, just Google Norwich or Hotels or Norwich Chamber of Commerce and listings or links should be available. Thanx
FRITZ
I found an old posting from Fritz from 9/1/06, the parade starts at 11 am sharp.
What time does the parade start in Colchester? When the new directions were posted on the schedule page the times were left off. Thanks, see you Sunday.
Guess everyone "formerly" here went to the OKO's site----
Missy-- I will not be staying overnight Saturday but am planning to stay overnight Sunday--- I havn't looked yet but perhaps if Dave Martin reads this he could eMail a couple of suggestions to us-- if you find a place let me know!!! Thanx!!!
Hi!
Is anyone doing an overnight before the muster? Where are you staying? Any good hotel suggestions?
Have a safe trip and see you all on Sunday! Missy
ATTENTION!!!! ATTENTION!!!!! ATTENTION!!!!
PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF LOCATION FOR NESVFL EVENT!!!
Please be aware that our event has been moved to BACON ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL, 611 Norwich Ave, Colchester. Due to booking errors, we will NOT be at the same location as the '04 event. I know that this is last minute changes, but we had to salvage the Muster. It was a choice of moving the location or not having it.
Anyway, the directions for the parade/muster will be the same with the following corrections:
THE PARADE ROUTE WILL FORM ON NORWICH AVE, JUST PRIOR TO THE ENTRANCE TO THE HIGH SCHOOL.
THE DIRECTIONS TO NORWICH AVE ARE THE SAME AS THE OLD ONES.....
TAKE 395SOUTH TO ROUTE 2 WEST...
TAKE EXIT 21 (BUSINESS ROUTE) TURN LEFT AT END OF RAMP..STAGE FOR PARADE AT POSTED SIGNS. ENTRANCE FOR BACON ACADEMY IS ABOUT 1/4 MILE ON RIGHT. ????????????????????????????????? Call me @ 860-638-8936

Hello Old Friends,
Looking forward to seeing everybody again on the 24th. We will see some of you earlier at our picnic grounds, or as we call it, "Shuster Park". For first timers coming into town I'll provide with the following directions:
FROM WORCESTER - Take I-395 South to Norwich, CT. Take the Route 2 WEST exit. This will bring you along Norwich streets for a short distance (a couple of miles) then connect you onto Route 2 West. Follow Route 2 West until Exit 21. Turn left at end of exit. Follow until traffic light, then turn right. Continue straight to the firehouse.
FROM HARTFORD: (I-91 or I-84) Take Route 2 EAST until exit 17. Turn left off of exit then bear right onto Old Hartford Rd. Firehouse is about 1 mile on left.
Remember that the Rec Complex is town property and that alcohol is not allowed. (Extreme descretion please!) Also remember that the road in and out to Shuster Park is a small residential road and speeding is strictly enforced! (a state trooper lives on the road)
Drop me an email if you have any questions. Thanks Dave

Hi All,
As you know the drawing for Colchester is this Friday at the Neptune Hall 7:00 PM. The entries went out late and I don't want to miss anyone so if you also want to reply here with your entry that would be fine.
Thanx
FRITZ
Anyone have directions to Oxford, Ma. I have a pretty good idea how to get there but I have friends meeting me there and are not familiar with the area. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Karin
Fritz-Do we sign up right here or do you want a special e-mail to the snet.net address? Consider the OKO's in on the party. From memory the form wants to know: OKOMMAKAMESIT-10 inch piston-built 1861 by Button & Blake-Foreman is Rick Bartlett and our snail mail is: OKO's VFA, P.O.Box 136, Marblehead, MA 01945. How's that? See you in Oxford
Hi All,
I apologize as the entries for Colchester have not been sent yet but will be shortly. There is a question on where the drawing will be held but as soon as I know I will post it here. The particulars for the muster are;
Sunday, September 24th, Colchester, CT. at the recreation fields, Old Hebron Road, Behind the Firehouse off of Route 85. Short parade lines up on Old Hebron Road (again directly behind firehouse), steps off at 11:00 Sharp and proceeds a short distance to the Muster Field. Pumping starts at 12:30 Sharp. Food will be available, judges will not be fed, (most of us are fat enough already!!) Those that are attending may enter by replying to this email and also sending back the entry as soon as you receive it. Sorry for the late mailing but.....they will soon be on their way.
Thanx
FRITZ
I do not have all the particulars for Oxford yet. All I know is the Selectmen do not want any machines pulled by hand. I will know more after the drawing Friday, & will let the results be known on Tuesday when I get back from a mini vacation. At this point, I am saying the parade will be like Ashburnham was in 05. NO marching, No points & No Parade Prize money.
Will we be judged on the parade? The usual rules for men on the ground; color guard; etc? How long is the route? Thanks
ALL hantubs will be staying on their trailers for the parade in Oxford. All machines must still be in the parade to be eligible to pump.
Boy; Is this place dead! I got an answer via e-mail in case anyone was wondering-the meeting is in Newbury and I'm told the dinner is BBQ Chicken.
Fritz-You never did finish that thought.... Where is the Oct meeting?? I must have it written down somewhere, but don't recall. Can't wait for Oxford. Will all the regulars be there???
WOW its quiet here must be in between muster dates blues
Hi Tracy!!!!!!!!! Wouldn't that be cool........
Chrissie--I would love to see all of us chicks pump the Bradstreet!! Yahoo!! Look out 261'3" ;)
Earl, with all thoses guys pumping, they must have women hiding somewhere!!!!lol
Hey Chrissie; Who but the Bradstreet could come up with even 20 women to pump??????
Hey Chrissie; Who but the Bradstreet could come up with even 20 women to pump??????
How about all women pumping???????????????
You know how sports writers 'mail in' a column of random thoughts every so often? How's this for an idea that's bounced off the wall? I've been telling folks we've got the best 20 man class A tub in the League this season. How about a muster with one $500 prize and the "A" tubs have a limit of a 20 man crew and the "B"s get 16? One man on top doesn't count toward crew. Pipe crew limited to two people. Hell; we'd still have trouble coming up with 20, but it might be fun to level the field a little and see what happens.
What happened here???? Is eveyone sleeping???? We only had 3 musters and 1 pump-off......
Well Fritz; Did your computer lose it's thought?
First of all...Yahooooooo!!!!!!! Way to go teamates!!!!!!!!!!! Nice job and a big 'ol high 5!! Quohogs....can't say thanks enough for all of your support!!!! You rock!!!! Steve Young, on behalf of " THE GOVERNOR " Thank-you for a great time this week-end... and the great hang-over!!!!!Your hospitality and beautiful fire pit were greatly appriciated.....again thanks from all of us!
GREAT JOB STREET!!!LETS KEEP IT UP!!FEAR NOT WE COME!! SEE U IN OXFORD!!
Bob Blackadar-If you read this-I've been trying to reach you. Apparantly hard to do. Call or e-mail me.
Congratulations to Gov Bradstreet and Hancock on their wins last Saturday. Will see you all in Oxford, Ma. as I have to work on Saturday 8/5. Good Luck to all.
Steve, hope your ready for us....FEAR NOT WE WILL COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great job on new bradstreet site alan thank you also goes out to protection for a awesome muster
FYI there is going to be a wedding at St. Denis Church on Main Street the day of the Ashburnham muster. Therefore we will NOT have use of their parking lot. School St. is now a private way so you should not have trouble finding a place to park. Hand Engines their tow vehicles & (1) support vehicle are all that will be allowed on the Upper Parking lot(muster site)on the day of the muster. There is also a road above the muster site that can be used if needed. It is an access to the cemetary & should not be blocked.
Does anybody have the results fom the pump-off between the Neps and Protection?

OK SO OBVIOUSLY THE MUSTER IN FALMOUTH WAS CANCELLED :( THIS IS A TREND I HATE SEEING.ONLY 5 MUSTERS THIS SEASON, WTF!!! OH WELL, I GUESS THAT JUST MEANS WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO TURN IT UP A NOTCH RIGHT BRADSTREET??? WE GOTTA TAKE THESE NEXT FEW MUSTERS, BEFORE WE GET SCREWED OUT OF ANOTHER ONE!!OH AND BY THE WAY, WHY WASTE THE TIME VOTING ON,PLANNING FOR,AND ORGANIZING A MUSTER THAT IS NOT YET A DEFINATE THING? IT GETS EVERYONES HOPES UP AND IT SEEMS TO ME LIKE IT WAS A WASTE OF TIME EVEN TALKING ABOUT OR PLANNING FOR THAT MUSTER.PLUS, PEOPLE PAY FOR THINGS LIKE SCHEDUAL CARDS AND NOW THEY ARE WRONG,ALSO......PEOPLE PLAN VACATIONS AND STUFF LIKE THAT AROUND MUSTER SEASON AND NOW INSTEAD OF HAVING 2 MUSTERS IN A ROW (WHICH I LOVE!!) WE ONLY HAVE 1.I'M NOT SAYING ANYONE IN THE LEAGUE DID ANYTHING WRONG BUT........FALMOUTH SHOULD HAVE NEVER GOTTEN EVERYONES HOPES UP IF IT WASNT A DEFINATE THING.
WITH THAT BEING SAID, CONGRATS TO THE PROTECTION FOR BEATING US, BUT LOOK OUT.......WERE COMMING FOR YA!!I LOVE THE COMPETITON WE GET FROM EVERYONE SO....BRING IT ON!!
AND FINALLY, I THINK IM GONNA PUMP THE PROTECTION AT THE PUMPOFF BECAUSE 1.iT WOULD BE A NICE GESTURE AND FRED WOULD LOVE TO LOOK DOWN AND SEE THAT,IM SURE AND 2.AFTER THAT, I DONT KNOW WHEN MY NEXT CHANCE WOULD BE.PLUS, BETWEEN OUR CREW AND THE PROTECTIONS CREW...........WE COULD THROW SOME SERIOUS WATER!!!
OK EVERYONE!! SEE U TOMMORROW!!LETS GET READY!! ROWDY UP BRADSTREET!!!!!C-YA
Thanks for the answer to my question, Vince. I have been to league meetings in the past, but wasn't sure what the rules were in the event of a cancellation. Hey Kathi good to see you posting this year :). I don't see how a town would have a problem with a deposit--as long as they hold the muster, they get their deposit back. I think towns would shy away from a "fee" or "penalty" for cancelling.(Verbage always seems to make a difference--even though at the end of the day, if you cancell, you pay.) Just my opinion. It's a tough call--it's not like towns are lined up at the door wanting to hold a muster. Speaking of that, what are the chances of ever going back to Newburyport?
I think that requesting a "good faith" deposit may discourage some towns from considering the idea in the first place. Nailing down the schedule as best as possible at the May meeting sounds as though it would be the best resolution. However maybe there should be an understanding that if a town needs to cancel a scheduled muster then that town would be responsible for half of any cost that would be incurred on the league in doing so.
Certainly not to speak out of turn, I have not attended any meetings either. Just a suggestion.
Ron; No refunds-entire premium is earned when written. This is why I keep saying we need a solid schedule in place before the policy goes into effect. Everything should be nailed down at the May meeting. We could likely have the 6th muster somewhere else at no additional premium; but they won't return any $. As I suggested earlier; perhaps we need a "good faith" deposit to accompany the request for a date. As Vince said-there's never any serious discussion-we just accept whatever comes along. We are probably lucky this doesn't happen more often.
Shouldn't we be looking fo an abatement from our insurance carrier?
Looking forward to seeing the 40-50 yellow shirts ( and the black one) that couldn"t make it to Maine last sunday..so is George...we don't want to see him pacing the muster field wondering where everybody is.....and as for all you Quohogs, once again, thanks for all your support..you rock!!!!! Good luck to all the tubs this week-end !!!!! Flash, where are you?!?!?!
Tracy--- they are really not committed in any way; I don't think you go to the League Meetings BUT all we do is vote to give them the date for the Muster-- if they cancel so be it, they don't have to provide the Prize Money until close to the Muster date--- Usually that is not such a big deal BUT in this case the Falmouth Muster was the 6th Muster of the year requiring the League to pay extra money for the Insurance out of the Insurance Fund-- thus the League LOST $500 if I am to interpret Earl's eMail correctly as the Insurance has to be Prepaid for the Year--- WHAT could you use $500 for??? Unless a new 6th Muster is brought forward for this year the League has been Screwed out of $500 in my opinion-- BUT this is not the League VP's from Maine Fault, or Steve's Fault, or Melissa's, or Mine--- it is just the way we approve Musters, and it falls on all of us who go to League Meetings and just approve everything brought to us without looking at costs--- WE DEFINITELY NEED TO LOOK AT THIS BEFORE approveing Musters for Next Year---- Look forward to seeing all of you Saturday!!!!
When a town decides to hold a muster, what are their obligations/responsibilities to the league (if any)? Is that town "committed" to us in any way?
Maybe it's just me; but I think Falmouth should be responsible for the insurance premium we've incurred by including them on the schedule. Maybe in the future we should require a $500 deposit when someone asks for a muster date?
congrats to protect and tiger c ya all sat. karin c ya there
Alan, you should bring AJ...Joey would love to hang out at a muster with him....let me know and I'll pack extra juice boxes (and real food)don"t forget to remind Keith....

I guess I am finally feeling my age. The plan was to pack the bus Saturday morning for Oxford, muster hard for the day and then head up to Falmouth Saturday night. I was relieved when I heard Falmouth was postponed until next year.
See you all on Handtub Lane Saturday!!!
Thank-you Missy....Just got off the phone with Karin, she will be up here for saturday and is looking forward to seeing everyone....see ya in Newbury!!!!!!!!!!

Falmouth was cancelled because the location of the muster will not be ready in time. The developer has hit some snags. They have decided to have it earlier in the season next year and hopefully make it an annual event.
Congrats to the Protection and the Tiger! See you all next Sat. in Newbury!!
Have safe travels!!
Anyone know what happened with the Falmouth muster?

Can anyone tell us how to get ahold of someone from the Quansigamog? We have a piece that we would like to donate to them for a raffle (maybe in Yarmouth muster??) to help raise money to get their tub back. It is made of all 100% steel and is about 14 1/2" wide. It can been seen on the Quansigamog page at http://www.handtub.com/quohog.htm

Only 2 weeks left!! Yarmouth always has a HUGE parade the Friday of the festival. The parade starts at 6pm and ends about 2.5 hours later. Spectators set up their chairs very early Friday morning to get a good spot....it would be nice to see lots of handtubs there!! Travel safely and see you all soon!
Hey everyone. I had a great time at Kayla's house last weekend--watch out for those bears! I can't wait to go to Yarmouth. Interesting that they are having a non-manditory parade two days before the muster....oh well. See you all at "breakfast club" :) BTW Nephew are you a little pumped? ;)

HAPPY 4TH 0F JULY EVERYONE!!!!! lESS THAN TWENTY...THAT'S RIGHT...19 DAYS TO GO......
Terrible quiet....Pretty scary when we don't even hear from Earl or Vince!
I hope this isn't indicitive of the overall health of our league and sport....could this be the last summer for musters as we know them?
I know for a lot of us it will be a tough season without Freddie, his strength and wisdom will be so missed...but then again maybe the loss of the great ones such as Freddie helps us keep things going in their honor.
Hello muster friends... Wouldn't today have been a great day for a muster?!?!? Last year at this time, we were all getting ready for Stow,VT. now we just have to keep ourselves entertained for three more more loooooong weeks...That's right folks, 22 days to go...Ron, hang in there... it's only 3 more sundays...might seem like forever, but I promise it will go by pretty fast at this point....

Let's have a little more chat here!!! Even if someone brings up something controversial to banter about.
We have some of our crew in the desert right now and they have internet access, let's give them some support with some muster stories, chit chat and other muster related stuff!
Crissy, can you post a daily count down?
Flag's up!
leave it to chrissy to haveit down to days hours and minutes!
Hey everyone! I was looking at my friend Chrissie's muster scrapbooks last week---friends, fun and frosties! I can't wait to see you all in Yarmouth. Go Bradstreet!!
Hey all you Bradstreeters!!!! We have 1 month,1 week, and 2 days to go! Before we know it,we'll be down to 1 more wake-up!
July 23rd seems too far away for the 1st event!
Can somebody organize some shit event...an open pump off, tub testing, car wash using tub supplied water, wet tee shirt contest etc. etc. or something.
The poor engines are going to think it's time to winterize them by the time we drag them out.
Maybe something totally different like a crew in red shirts drafts water out of a pond and pumps it into the tank of a yellow shirted crew and visa versa and see if a "washing" takes place?
Hello Ray good to hear from you . Tried to call twice , first time , got disconnected and second time , wrong number , sorry ! Thank you for dvd , for the tee shirts they are being printed as we speak , I hope you will like the logo ? seems to be more intrest in Augusta Maine , in the tub than in Framingham , wanted to surprise you at the muster in Maine , with shirts , see you at first muster . with tub .....
Hey Bob did you get all those DVD's? Hope you enjoyed them, never heard from you no thanks or nothing I don't imagine we will ever get our T shirts either. Oh well it only cost me the price of the discs, priority postage and a little time.
EarL went there last Oct. the week they had eight inches of rain in eight hours , nice place they would like to pump tubs from where they use to in 1800's . it was a great day even with all the rain , hope to go out againthis year , it was a great time to wash all of the dust off of Pacific . Earl they have aquired the old Converse and are restoring it .
Hey-Very Quiet here again! Did everyone with a Button hear from the folks in Waterford? They are building a database and would like to hear from us. Check out- www.waterfordheritageday.com -maybe someday when gas goes back to $1.50 we'll haul the OKO out there for the picnic!
looking for any quahogs #s so i can get directions to you reguarding the pig roast next weekend please someone get in touch with me,george, chip, jbird, dougie or anyone from the crew
I was just tired of seeing Vince's name everytime I checked in on the site! I'd ask the same question though-no mandatory parade in Yarmouth right? We are planning to bring the OKO up for it; but if it's not even on the same day; I can't see it being a requirement.
Steve and Missy-- Is the Parade Optional??? I will be in New York until Saturday Night-- I assume the VP's will take a look at that---
I just got the judges information for Yarmouth today! YEEHAW!! How many are coming Friday night for the BIG parade? I encourage you all to come if you can.
Hope you are all well! Missy
I got an e-mail today from Chief Fairbanks & the the muster in Yarmouth, ME is a go.
Hey Missy-What are the details on Falmouth? You mentioned a developer-where will the muster be held? There will be a crowd? Maybe this guy can spread a little $ over in Yarmouth? Hope everyone enjoyed the meal. The chicken looked great-almost good enough to pass up shrimp!
just looking for dates for 2006 season thanks u can email them
What do you mean easy?? It's NEVER EASY to get to Marblehead!! Some of us need signage!!
See you all tomorrow!! Have a safe trip! Missy
Hey Fritz (and all interested parties) For Marblehead, this one's easy. Come into town on Rte 114 and just stay with it. 114 officially ends at the main fire station; but that is Pleasant St. Stay straight on it about 3/4 mile to #62. It'll be on your right just past the bank. See ya there!
Directions to the muster meeting for the geographically challenged ????
Thanx
FRITZ
hope everyone had a nice off season.hope to see a whole lot of musters this year.cant wait!!!!!
I am still waiting for a few people to make a reservation for the league meeting cut of is May 4
Thanks Gary!! I don't think I need a sign this time...Al is driving so I should make it there....well, on second thought.....LOL You never know!!
See you on Saturday!!(hopefully on time!)
Missy DO I need to put a sign up for you?
We are waiting for final approval to go back to Cushing Academy Aug. 5th
Hey Fritz-Sounds good to me. Hurricane season and just before the fall meeting. Hopefully it's in conjunction with another event on the field? Anyone have a probable date for Ashbrunham?
Hey Fritz! What a great birthday present!! Another year with a muster on my day!!
Hope you all had a warm winter...see you in a few weeks...if I can find my way!! LOL!! Missy
Hi All,
How about a late in the season muster? Colchester, CT. Sunday September 24, 2006. Details will follow on parade and pumping times but it will similar to the last Muster Colchester hosted perhaps a 10:30 parade from the street behind the firehouse straight to the muster field (a short distance)with pumping at 12:30. That's all for now. We will firm it up before the May meeting but mark your calendars
Thanx
FRITZ
Hey, we do not have a date yet. I do believe that the Colchester Fire Dept. will again invite us but I need to let them find out what might be the best date with their parks dept. to have it back at the Rec. Field. So.....When I hear from them I'll post it right here. It might not be until the May meeting date. Also In CT the Gardner Lake Fire Dept is celebrating 50 years and might consider hosting the CT Muster if Colchester can't but they're such good hosts in Colchester and the field was so nice and convienent that I'm hoping they will invite us back !!! the site at Gardner Lake FD is not as nice but it would work.
Thanx
FRITZ

Hello? Is this thing on? Been gone awhile and no one has posted anything? Fritz-do you have a "maybe" date yet? Anyone else? I'm working on the renewal quote for the insurance and need a schedule for them. The two we have; plus likely in Yarmouth, CT and Ashburnham??? Anyone have dates and any other probable events? See ya soon.
Hey Ron; Yes, I've spent a couple of days out there. I called ahead once and spoke with the curator who let me use their library and toured the workshop too. Good people. I think if you let them know you're a hand tub guy with some knowledge of how things work, you'll get treated very well. Just to walk thru and see all the machines is certainly worth half a day if ever in Phnx.
Stopped in and checked the Hall of Flame museum in Pheniox AZ on a recent road trip, worth the price of admission if you're ever in the area. There is a link on Ray's site to check out some of their stuff.
C'mon C'mon isn't it spring yet?I cant snowmobile so it must be close to muster season!I'm dying to take the tub out of storage and put it back together!I don't know what to do with myself, when the weather is nice and there is no tub to pump or work on!!!!!!C'mon C'mon BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!
Hey Fritz-If the Yarmouth,ME thing comes in, it will be either July 22 or 23. They too know May is the cut-off.
Don't have a date yet or a place but we are trying to go back to Colchester, CT. it was a great spot and short parade (a little up hill) Our offer to them was we will bring everything and put up the prize money so.....we are waiting to see if they take the bait. Stay tuned and we will have it firmed up by May. if anyone has dates in mind for other vents please let me know so i can avoid any conflicts if possible and weddings don't count, my advice is to stay single but if you must, a spring or fall wedding is more appropriate.
Thanx
FRITZ
Just a reminder for you judges who wish to have shirts printed. Please get them to me no later than March 31st. I will get them to the printer and have them for the May meeting. The more I receive the less the cost will be per shirt.
Seems I missed everyone's Birthday!!!! Back from Vacation!!! Just to fill everyone in; the Quohog will be BACK all repaired this year it seems!!! It is in Robs shop undergoing major work and should be in Great Shape!! I think Junior whined enough and got Rob working on it instead of the Columbia!!! LOL The Quohog/Bradstreet crew is certainly an even match with the Hancock/Lane/Protection Crew--- if the Quohog would just hold together I think THAT will be the competition in B!!! Earl-- keep up the good work with Falmouth!!! The Victor will be our Tub this year-- and probably as usual we will be neck and neck to the end of the season for the B championship of NEWMARKET with the Tiger!!! (Been that way for 15 years!!!!) Ghost crews for the Tiger, Union, Atlantic, Gerry or Victor are no match for the "crew tubs". BUT, never say never, look at the Gerry a few years ago--- put together great streams wih minimal crews!!! See you all soon!!!
I pumped the union in ashburnham and with I full crew that tub would most likly beat us or come close. I think it is a fine machine with much potential with some young men behind it.
Hey guys; I've been keeping in touch with Yarmouth,ME trying to get us back to the Clam Festival. They are working on putting us out on Main St. right downtown. The only downside is that it would be on Sunday rather than Saturday. I still like the idea and figure a slightly smaller crowd is still a crowd! We need to be where there are people. As I've said before: No More Death Valley Days!
Think so Ron?? Seems to me the same handful of people who pump Union also pump Tiger, It appears to me Tiger pretty consistantly comes out on top.
Disagree Ray, I say put a full crew on the Union and it will give the Hancock a tough fight. We put our 2nd string crew on it in Ashburnham it they where knocking on the door. The Hancock is a model year 1828 and is competing with engines 20-40 years newer, take away our strong crew and pipeman and we would be getting our asses kicked on a regular basis.
If Atlantic is in the same condition it was in in George town then it would probably not do well against a first rate tub like Hancock. The way I see it if a floater team wants to get on a B tub to compete against Hancock and actually win a B muster then it really is not a hard choice to make....Tiger.
If you want a good battle for the Hancock; we should hope the Quoq isn't fixed and their crew pumps the Atlantic.
And while nobody is looking, the Lane will sneak in and capture the bowl.
I also hope the quohog gets put back together and gives the Hancock a good battle!
The OKO chat page seems more active than this one these days. Glad to see one street man here ready to take it on!!! Should be a good battle for class A this year, Protection will want to keep it and the Governor will want to take it back.
Its awfully quiet on here! Kind of like the barren wastelands of antarctica.Well just thought I would make a little noise, so WOOOOOOO HAAAAAAAAA, 15 minuets to glory baby!

As for everyone else (especially my crew!) lets keep the posts coming. Remember, muster season is right around the corner!
Happy Valentine's Day-Hope you are all busy getting some lovin'! Nephew-they are over on Ray's site: www.handtub.com-have fun!
Where do I go to see these slideshows? Its already been a long winter and I think watching these slideshows will help me with my muster withdrawls.
great job on new slide show ray
For those of you with high speed and following the slide shows, Great Barrington is now up for you.
Georgetown @ Noon (Dry)
Where is Leauge meeting? What time does it start?
Hi everyone #5 in favor of Billy filling his father's spot. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the meeting.
Hey Woody! Welcome aboard! If you've gone back thru some old posts; you pretty much know all the players here. Always good to have some new blood. Check out the other websites too. Ray Lemieux's has videos and slide shows to help get the muster feeling back (www.handtub.com) he also has links to other tubs' sites. We've got a few regular Bradstreet folks who post on the OKO site-why not a Protection guy? Ron-the May meeting is in Marblehead and we're serving fried shrimp. Also will kick around a by-law change or two. Almost worth the trip! On the other hand; I'd love to see the Alabama Coon in action. Too bad we didn't have a national beer sponsorship or something ( The Coors Coastal Challenge?) and bring a couple NESVFL machines out there and show 'em how it's done. We could get a couple A's in one of those car haulers with a few Hunnemans' riding on top. Wonder what it would cost???
Doh! Never even think of meetings anymore!
Oh well, maybe next year!
More nude bathing figures.....that's what I'm talking about!
I visited with the people at the Columbia State Historic Park back in June. There are several hand engines in the area and 3 at the park. They have the Papeete, a 7" hunneman that is a beautiful machine and also the Citizen No. 1 (aka Alabama Coon). You can check out both engines if you go to the HJUSA Feature Gallery.
If the "left" coast muster were not on the day of the May meeting I'd give serious thought to flying out.
You bring up a good point Woody, I would assume back in the day the Hancock had to go to fires in January. Of course I would have worries of getting drunk and forgetting to drain after pumping.
If we weren't such a cash starved bunch we could freight an engine or two out here for the May 7th Muster. www.columbiagazette.com/muster.html
I'll be there without an engine, anybody from the right side of the country want to go?
hello everyone i am a first time visitor to this site and this is about the 3rd or 4th time i have ever even been online. i will first start out by saying thanks for your prayers and condolences for the loss of my dad and for my family. i read quite a bit of past correspondence(sp.) and nevermind it's content, i never even knew until now that there was a small crowd of muster people communicating on the web. a hundred + years ago if you told the members of all the differnt machines that they would and could communicate like this you problably would have been hung! i have been saying for years that we as a league should have a muster in jan. it would not even have to be indoors, as long as each tub drained their machines after pumping i don't think it would be a problem. and a indoor muster would problably be even better because every team would have about the same chances (wind or lack of,etc.). i also noticed from reading past correspondence that a few people asked if there was any issues with my brother bill taking the place of my dad as vice pres. from what i read it doesn't seem to be an issue but if it became one i think that the seat should remain vacant instead of going back and forth about it if someone felt that bill filling his dads place was an issue. all of us as members of this league are participants in a dieing sport and it is more important that we all do the best we can to keep this sport going for many years to come!!! after all why would anyone not want to participate in musters for as long as they are alive. i consider it the best and the realest organized sport ever. i think that i have said enough for now. i did reconize a few of the people communicating on this site and if you would like to write back please do so, i plan to check in here from now on. stay healthy and happy and hope to see you at the next meeting adios ps. thank you gov. bradstreet for the wonderful flower arrangement it was comforting for myself and the rest of the family to walk into that wake and see such a pretty flower arrangement. it truely meant a lot to all of us
How do the spammers get thru the "hat click" security? These guys are good! As I read the By-laws, the president appoints an officer until the next meeting can elect a replacement. If no one from New York objects; I can't see anyone else trying to block Billy going in. What does surprise me is the By-Laws also state that V-P's sit by seniority as "elected". It would seem to me that means the new guy would go to the back of the pack. Stan tells me precedent is that the replacement picks up where the prior guy left off. Again, I don't think I've a big problem with that, but I just shake my head about our By-Laws being fairly meaningless "guidelines". See ya soon.
Hello!! I think it's a great idea for Billy to replace Freddie. Billy has the same heart and sole as his dad did and I cannot think of a better person to replace him. I just hope we don't get into any negative discussion about it at the meeting. I can't see why we would, but hey, this is the league and you never know!! See you all in a couple of weeks!! Missy
ps..Ronnie..a muster in CA? How cool is that? Real handtubs and everything??
Ok, so we hear from #1,2 and 3, anything from 4 and above?
OK #3 and Earl-- I am still monitoring all here---- OF WHICH there is Very Little!!! The Streeters will be back in the Spring I am Sure!!!! Earl-- I agree with #3 that Billy fulfilling Freddie's Term is Very Admirable and I think the Life Member Engraving should be to Freddie--- He Deserves That; he was a Defender of the "Old School Philosopy" of the Historical Aspect of our Organization and I respect that, even though as many of you, I was Never 100% in Agreement with Him!!! He had Nothing but the League Interest in Mind-- and was a Fighter for the Protection snd the NESVFL--- I will vote for any Motion/Action any of you guys put forward for that!!!! See You in February!!!
Hey Earl! Thanks for breaking the silence, I have not posted anything because I am tired of being the one to do so, I figured I could count on you, Vince or Missy.
I think having Billy finish off his Dad's term is an excellent idea, I would hope and expect the past Presidents badge would have Freddie's name on it?
May 7th Muster, Columbia State Historic Park, California....Hope to see some of you east coast folks there!
Yikes! The spammers are back! Maybe they sneak into a site when it sits doemant this long? Has no one anything to say? What are the folks out there thinking about? Meeting in just a few weeks. Any opposition to Billy taking over Fred's NY Vice Pres slot? Any news on muster dates? See ya soon.
